St. John's Athletic Communications Announces Additions of Brown and Jackson to Staff

St. John’s University announces the additions of Tim Brown and Mekale Jackson as Assistant Directors of Athletic Communications. Both began their appointments in the Department of Athletic Communications in Mid-August.

Brown serves as the primary media contact for the Red Storm’s men’s soccer and baseball teams and is a secondary contact for the men’s basketball team, while Jackson is the department’s publications coordinator.

Brown joined St. John’s after spending the previous year as the assistant sports information Director at Roger Williams University. At RWU, he served as the primary contact for 14 of the school’s 18 teams. He also traveled with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams to provide play-by-play and color commentary for the school’s internet webcasts.

Prior to his work at RWU, Brown spent three years as a student assistant in the Media Relations Department at the University of Massachusetts. At UMass, he was heavily involved in communications efforts for the football, hockey and men’s basketball teams. Brown served as the statistical coordinator for the 2005 NCAA Division I Hockey Northeast Regional and also for the 2006 Hockey East Tournament semifinals and finals.

Brown is a 2006 graduate of UMass, where he earned his B.S. in sport management from the school’s prestigious Isenberg School of Management.

Jackson, a 2006 graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English, Language and Literature, is responsible for the design of all St. John’s Athletics’ publications, including media guides, yearbooks, game programs, ticket brochures, camp brochures and electronic communications. He serves as the chief liaison with the Red Storm’s third-party printing company and is a key event staff member at home athletic contests.

Jackson comes to the Red Storm after a stint at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where he shared media relations duties for 20 Mariner sports. While at the Academy, he was responsible for the design of all athletic brochures. He also produced publications while an undergraduate at Michigan, for Wolverine Athletic Marketing and for several Ann Arbor businesses.
