Martin Named Assistant Director for Athletics Media Relations at Longwood
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University assistant athletics director for media relations Greg Prouty has announced the recent appointment of Kristian Martin as assistant director for athletics media relations. She previously worked at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville during the past two years as both a full-time staff assistant as well as an undergraduate student assistant. Martin earned her bachelor of arts degree in sociology from UNF last August with a minor in communications, including a public relations emphasis.
“Kristian has an excellent background in intercollegiate athletics and brings outstanding media relations experience to this position,” said Prouty. “Her two years at North Florida allowed her the opportunity to gain invaluable working knowledge of NCAA?Division I athletics media relations, including travel experience, while also assisting with home game operations involving high-profile sports. Kristian will certainly add to the efforts of our office to effectively publicize and promote Longwood Athletics.”
During her time at North Florida, Martin served as the primary contact for women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, along with men’s and women’s track & field. In addition to her game operations experience, she also produced media guides for her assigned sports, supervised and managed student assistants and interns, while also organizing and assisting with daily operations as well as various special projects for UNF Athletics.
“I am very excited to join Longwood Athletics,” explained Martin. “It is a privilege to be able to help this program continue to grow from its recent transition to Division I. I look forward to helping the department build upon the efforts already made to take Longwood Athletics to the next level.”
At Longwood, Martin will assist in all aspects of the Athletics Media Relations office with direct sport responsibility for women’s basketball, men’s soccer, softball, women’s lacrosse, field hockey, along with men’s and women’s tennis. She will assist in the management of the Internet athletics website, handle media inquiries and coordinate interviews, promote home events, produce sport guides and other publications, assist with game management activities, as well assisting with the supervision of students.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Martin was also the sports editor of the UNF student newspaper from June-December of 2005. She assisted at the 2006 NCAA?Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament opening rounds in Jacksonville as well, serving as the event’s Photography Director.
