Now that we are well into the crossover between the fall sports schedule and the winter sports schedule,
College Fanz™ Sports Network added new tools and widgets to
America’s College Scoreboard™ that can truly help
CoSIDA members extend their schools reach beyond traditional media channels.
The recent debut of the enhanced
College Fanz homepage brings even more exciting new features for the world’s largest online college sports community. Significant to that fresh, new look is the prominence of
America’s College Scoreboard, with scores and schedules of every college team. Enhancements include “road trip” mapping, helping fanz travel to their favorite college team’s away games, and widgets that let them embed their team’s results on social network web sites. The homepage also now showcases more original content, including photographs, videos and blogs from College Fanz members.
An early adopter of integrating the
Virtual Pressbox™ from
College Fanz into his daily SID routine is Jamie Shoemaker,
Sports Information Director/Compliance Coordinator at Salem International University in Salem, West Virginia.
Shoemaker had added a logo and link to College Fanz on his school’s athletic web site, and that gave our team an idea. In early October, we worked with Shoemaker to create a “widget” that he could embed into the Salem International web site that automatically captures the schedules, scores, game notes and other materials he inputs into his Virtual Pressbox, and broadcasts it through America’s College Scoreboard. Now when students, alumni, family and friends click on the Salem Fighting Tigers official athletic web site, the customized Salem International “slice” of America’s College Scoreboard appears at the top of the web site with all the most recent Fighting Tigers scores and upcoming games.
“I was impressed with College Fanz from the beginning, and really like what they are doing,” said Shoemaker. “It’s really encouraged our fans to actively get involved in our program on a deeper level. When College Fanz offered me the widget for America’s College Scoreboard, I implemented it right away. It’s a lot easier than what I used to do, which was to constantly update the school web site in addition to all my other tasks. Now I don’t have to update things twice – I just use the Virtual Pressbox and it gets broadcast to College Fanz and to our school web site.
“The reaction from our fans has been very positive, and the coaches love it, as they have told me they consider it helpful for their recruiting, too.”
College Fanz is working with other SID’s who have asked for assistance in upgrading their resources for their school’s web site. The free widget that Salem International now uses is also available to any SID who utilizes the Virtual Pressbox to broadcast their scores, schedules, game notes and other information.
It’s yet another part of our ongoingcommitment to our corporate partners at CoSIDA, and to our goal of simplifying an SID’s workload, and enhancing each school’s online exposure and opportunities, by building something we think can help you, making your valuable work on behalf of your school and your student-athletes more visible and more effective.
Our pledge to CoSIDA is to continue to enhance and update the Virtual Pressbox for the benefit of the membership, the colleges and universities that CoSIDA members represent and their student-athletes.
