COSIDA OFFICERS CALL MINUTES - December 6, 2007

President Charles Bloom did a roll call.

I. Third Vice President Larry Dougherty said he was about to begin the Special Awards process. He said he had been waiting to get an updated committee list, which he now has, to know who would be involved in the process.

II. Director of Markerting Ed Carpenter discussed ESPN’s sponsorship of the Academic All-America program and said he didn’t feel that the holdups in getting the contract signed would affect the process. He said the first installment was due in December, He said there were still plans to have a conference call with ESPN The Magazine about promoting the Academic All-America program but Carpenter said he was holding off on that until the current contract was finalized.

III. Carpenter talked about recommendations for a new logo from the Marketing Committee. After lengthy discussion, it was decided to have an open contest for persons or agencies to submit logo designs and the winning design would receive $2,500 from CoSIDA.

IV. Judy Willson gave an update on the Executive Director’s search. There was a conference call scheduled for later on the 6th to narrow the top five to a top two or three. There was discussion
about previous conference calls with candidates.

V. There was an update on the Tampa Workshop. Second Vice President Justin Doherty said the social committee had a call. He said he felt the University of Tampa would be the host contact. Doherty said he would be in Tampa for a week for a bowl game and would try and organize a get-together with area SIDs. He said the Tampa Bay Rays would offer CoSIDA a discount code to order tickets off its website. In looking at the Workshop schedule, Wednesday appeared to be the only night that wouldn’t conflict with the Workshop program.

VI. First Vice President Nick Joos asked when a convention fee would be set. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter said it could be set soon. He was checking with the hotel on meal costs, etc.

VII. Bloom said there was the possibility of some sort of discounts available to workshop attendees at the Channel Side area in Tampa. He said the area offered similar discounts at bowl games, etc., held in Tampa.

VIII. There was discussion of on-line professional development opportunities on the CoSIDA website involving Human Kinetics, Joe Favorito and the U.S. Sports Academy. There was discussion of costs and courses available.

IX. Bloom said Eric Christansen of the NCAA wanted to have the CoSIDA board in Indianapolis on Jan. 23-24.

X. There was discussion of junior college nominees for CoSIDA Academic All-America programs. As in the past, junior college nominees can be placed in with college division nominees - provided the junior college SID is a CoSIDA member.
