UC Riverside Adds Maxwell To Athletics Department Roster As Assistant Athletics Director, Media Relations

(Riverside, CA) – UC Riverside Athletics Director Stan Morrison announced today the hiring of John Maxwell as the Athletics Departments new Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.

“John Maxwell has a wealth of experience with local and national media in addition to valuable university Sports Information experience," said Morrison. "His technical background will permit us to continue to grow Media Relations here at UC Riverside and enhance the visibility of all of our sports programs. We are fortunate to have him joining the Highlanders and we are anxious for our community to meet him.”

Maxwell brings more than a decade of media relations experience to the Highlanders serving most recently as the Director of Basketball Operations and Media Relations for the Detroit Shock of the WNBA. From 2002-2004, he was the Director of Basketball Communications for the Women’s National Basketball Association, and he began his career in professional athletics with the NBA's Charlotte Hornets and the WNBA's Charlotte Sting in 1998.

Prior to pursuing a career in professional athletics, Maxwell worked for the Salisbury Post newspaper in Salisbury North Carolina, and served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Davidson College, his alma mater, from 1990-95. He has an extensive background in both managing and assisting with major media events including WNBA Finals, NBA and WNBA All-Star games, NCAA Men's and Women's Final Fours, and the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.

Maxwell is single, and resides in Riverside with his cat MeatLoaf (named after the singer, not the food).
