Army Athletic Association Announces Staff Reorganization
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson has announced a change in the structure of the Army Athletic Association’s external operations departments. The new plan will take affect immediately.
Previously the senior associate athletic director for athletic communications, Bob Beretta, will now serve as senior associate athletic director for athletic communications, relationships and branding, and oversee Army’s multi-media and broadcasting, marketing and development efforts. He will also continue to serve as the point person for Army Football scheduling. Beretta, a past president of the Eastern College Athletic Association Sports Information Directors Association, has been a member of the athletic department’s executive staff for the past nine years. Beretta joined the Army Athletic Association in 1987 and has supervised the athletic communications office since 1995.
Associate athletic director Nate Pine, who formerly had oversight of the marketing and development programs, has been promoted to a role in strategic planning for the Army Athletic Association. Pine, a member of the Army staff since 2005, will be involved in major projects such as the purchase and installation of the new video board for Michie Stadium, Army-Navy football television negotiations and Army-Navy football future site selection.
Rich DeMarco, Army’s director of multi-media services, broadcasting and community outreach, has been promoted to assistant athletic director for multi-media and broadcasting. Currently in his fourth year at West Point, DeMarco will continue to serve as part of the Black Knights’ football broadcasting team, as well as the radio play-by-play voice for Army men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and lacrosse. In addition, DeMarco supervises the production and maintenance of all multi-media content on Army’s official web site, which includes more than 100 live events and more than 250 features to date for the 2007-08 season.
In addition to DeMarco’s promotion, Brian Gunning has been elevated to assistant athletic director for athletic communications. Gunning joined the Army staff in June 2007 after two years as director of athletic media relations at Ohio University. In his new role, Gunning will have an increased administrative role in the operation of the athletic communications department and will continue to serve as the primary media contact for the Army men’s basketball team and the secondary contact for the Black Knights’ football program.
Doug Fillis, who joined the Army Athletic Association in 2005, will hold the title of assistant athletic director for development and revenue generation. Since arriving at West Point, Fillis has helped to grow the annual fund to an all-time record $3.1 million. He created and implemented the Beat Navy! Beat Air Force! Campaign and the Friends of Program to increase sport specific fundraising. Fillis will also supervise the day-to-day operation of the Army Athletics ticket office.
As part of the reorganization plan, current members of the athletic communications staff will also hold new titles to better reflect their duties and responsibilities. Forty-year West Point staffer Mady Salvani, Army’s primary media contact for women’s soccer, rifle, gymnastics and softball, has been named director of research and special reports. Ryan Yanoshak, will serve as the department’s director of licensing and branding in addition to his role as the office’s primary contact for men’s golf and hockey. Tim Volkmann, Army’s primary media contact for men’s soccer, wrestling, swimming and diving, and men’s lacrosse, will hold the title of director media event management, and coordinate the media relations operations for any championship events held at West Point. Tracy Nelson will serve as director of internet services in addition to her duties as the department’s media contact for volleyball, women’s basketball and women’s tennis. She will be the department’s liaison with JumpTV, Army’s official web site provider.
