Day Named RMAC's 2008 J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Director of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For the third time in seven years, Adams States' Chris Day has been voted the J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Director of the Year, as voted on by the leagues 14 sports information directors. Day won the inaugural award in 2002 and again in 2006 with fellow colleague Peter Yazvac of Nebraska-Kearney.

Day, who has been part of the Grizzly program since 1999, serves as the Grizzlies' associate athletic director and sports information director. In his sports information director role, he serves as the media relations liaison, department statistician and is the webmaster for ASC's official website. He is also charged with promoting the many accomplishments and successes of ASC's student-athletes and coaches in each of the department's 14 athletic programs.

In his associate athletic director role, he is the department's point man on the corporate partnership program that has set fundraising records in each of the last two years. He also oversees many of the Grizzly Club's functions and chairs the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee. In addition, he is in charge of athletic event scheduling and serves on the department's leadership team.

A 1999 graduate of Mesa State College, Day earned his undergraduate degree in mass communications with a double emphasis in public relations and news/editorial with a minor in mathematics. He has since completed coursework towards a master's degree in health and physical education with an emphasis in sports administration at ASC.

A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Day serves on CoSIDA's committee on committees. His list of committee experience includes the Don Hansen's Weekly Football Gazette All-America/Region selection committee and the NCAA's Southwest Regional Advisory Committee for volleyball.

The other finalists for this year's award were Nebraska-Kearney's Peter Yazvac and Colorado Mines' Jeff Duggan. The winner of the award is not eligible for the award the following year.

Campbell was a long-time sports information director at Western State College. He was also the assistant to the Western State President, an assistant professor, teaching seven separate disciplines and was the school's information director. He also co-authored two books and wrote numerous articles for magazines and trade publications. Campbell, who passed away in March 2000, was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in July 2007.

Marshall, who resigned from the sports information directors post from Chadron State College in 2007 after 36 years, continues to assist in the promotions of Chadron State and its athletics programs. A native of Chadron and a CSC graduate, Marshall's named was added to the award in 2007. He has received a 25-year award from the College Sports Information Directors of America and served on the Harlon Hill Award Selection Committee.

Day will be recognized at the 2008 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards banquet on Saturday, July 12th at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.
