Nestor To Receive CoSIDA’s 2008 University Division Rising Star Award

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Mendy Nestor, in her second year as an Assistant Director in the University of Pittsburgh Media Relations Office, has been named the recipient of the 2008 University Division Rising Star Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award is presented to a University Division member with 10 years of service or less whose work at their institution and service, dedication, energy and enthusiasm to the profession make that individual a “rising star” in sports information.

Nestor, who works primarily with the Panther football, women's basketball and baseball teams, came to Pitt after a six-year stint at Auburn University where she served as an Associate Director with the women's basketball, football and women's golf teams. During that time, she also worked with women's soccer, volleyball, the National Champion swimming and diving teams, men's tennis and softball at Auburn.

Prior to Auburn, Nestor worked at East Carolina University from 1999-2000 where she was the primary contact for women's basketball, softball and cross country as well as assisted with football. She served as the football program editor for the ECU publication that won fourth-best in the nation by CoSIDA.

Nestor's first post after college was as a publishing staff assistant at Host Communications in Lexington, Ky., from 1998-99. She also served as a student assistant in the West Virginia media relations office and did an internship for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Nestor earned a bachelor of science degree in Journalism from West Virginia University in 1998 with a major in public relations and a double minor in business administration and sport management.
