HOLLY ROWE TO SERVE AS EMCEE OF ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HALL OF FAME® INDUCTION CEREMONY
Holly Rowe, who has covered a myriad of events since joining the ESPN family of announcers on a regular basis in August 1998, will serve as the Emcee of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame® induction ceremony that will be held at the CoSIDA annual Convention in Tampa, FL on Monday evening, June 30th.
Five former outstanding student-athletes who have gone on to distinguishing post-graduate careers will be inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame, bringing the total number of Hall of Famers to 103. The number “103” is particularly impressive as more than 18,000 student-athletes have earned Academic All-America® honors over the years, and, following the induction of the Class of 2008, only 103 will be in the Hall of Fame.
This year’s class includes Dr. Kenneth Caldwell (The Citadel, class of 1979), a gridiron standout who served in the United States Army Reserve for eight years, including a tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm, and has been Citadel’s team physician since 1989; Nancy Hogshead-Makar (Duke University, class of 1986), who captured four individual ACC titles for the Blue Devils before earning glory at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with three swimming gold medals; Karen Jennings (University of Nebraska, class of 1993), the Wade Trophy recipient as a senior and the two-time Academic All-America® of the Year for the Huskers; Rebecca Lobo (University of Connecticut, class of 1995), a consensus national Player of the Year selection who guided the Huskies to a perfect season as a senior before enjoying more success in the WNBA; and Amy Privette Perko (Wake Forest University, class of 1987), the first female Academic All-America® in school history and current Executive Director of the Knight Foundation Commission.
Since joining ESPN a decade ago, Rowe has shown her ability to cover a wide-range of sports. Primarily, she covers college football and men’s basketball, but she has also covered NCAA Championships in women’s basketball, softball and baseball as well as the WNBA, soccer, the Little League World Series of baseball and softball. In addition, Rowe, who served as a sideline reporter for select ESPN telecasts in 1997 and for ABC Sports from 1995-96, has also provided play-by-play for women’s college basketball and women’s college volleyball for ESPN since 1998 and Fox Sports from 1993-2003. She was one of four play-by-play announcers on ESPN’s coverage of the 1998 Women’s World Cup and has hosted ESPN’s coverage of the Running of the Bulls. She was also the analyst for the WNBA’s Utah Starzz until the franchise moved to San Antonio. Rowe has served as the play-by-play voice for BYU Women’s Basketball and Gymnastics since 1993.
