Jacksonville University Communication Efforts Continue to Build
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In the ever changing world of media relations, the JU athletic media relations office is undergoing a reorganization to be better equipped with the growing demands of a Division I program.
With that in mind, JU media relations staffers Joel Lamp and Josh Ellis each received promotions from JU director of athletics Alan Verlander.
"The efforts by our communication staff in the past few years has been excellent and these promotions have been hard earned," Verlander said. "The visibility of JU athletics in the community has been led by their efforts. Through their dedication and hard work, they have elevated our publications, website and coverage from the media."
Lamp, who is completing his third year as the assistant athletics director for media relations, is being promoted to associate athletics director for media relations. Along with overseeing all of the communication efforts of the athletic department, he will take on additional administrative roles as he currently oversees the JU men's and women's golf programs and is on the host committee for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship that returns to Jacksonville in 2010.
Lamp will also serve as the tournament director for JU's men's and women's golf tournaments planned for February 2009.
This past year, Lamp oversaw the creating of JU's video streaming channel on ASun.TV as more than 80 events were broadcast live on the Internet. He served as the point man for the football television broadcasts on Comcast, working the crew on production and content for each broadcast.
Ellis, wrapping up his fourth year as the assistant media relations director, has been promoted to director of media relations. He will handle the day-to-day running of the media relations department and will oversee the gameday staff at home events.
This past year, Ellis took over more of the day-to-day duties of running the office, overseeing the recruiting and education of student and intern staff as well as assisting in the implementation of the video streaming channel.
"Josh's experience and dedication are tremendous assets to our department," Lamp said. "He handled more of a leadership role with our staff this past year and excelled, making him even more deserving of this honor."
