University of Michigan Adds Four New Members to the Athletic Media Relations Staff

Matt Baumer, editor at CBS College Sports, was named Assistant Web Director at the University of Michigan June 11. Baumer spent one year as an editor for CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV) working with hundreds of university web sites before returning to his alma mater, the University of Michigan. He served as a student volunteer for two years and then was hired as a two-year intern in the U-M Athletic Media Relations office, overseeing women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and water polo, while assisting with a variety of sports. A native of Tualatin, Ore., Baumer graduated with a degree in sport management and communications in 2006.

Joe Arancio, an assistant at Newberry College, and Jeremy Reid, an assistant at the University of Buffalo, were both named interns for the athletic media relations at the University of Michigan July 7. While at Newberry, Arancio was the primary media contact for men's and women's soccer, wrestling and softball. A native of Annandale, N.J., Arancio attended American University in Washington D.C., where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism in 2007. As an undergraduate, he spent three years as a student worker in the sports information office, where he assisted with the wrestling, swimming and diving and track and field teams. Reid spent two years working in Buffalo's athletic communications office serving as the primary contact for the men's soccer, wrestling and baseball programs. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Reid graduated from Division of Kinesiology with a degree in sports management and communications in 2005.

Jessica Poole, assistant sports information director at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, was named assistant director for athletic media relations at the University of Michigan July 14. Poole spent a year and a half at UNC Greensboro working primarily with the women's basketball, volleyball, softball, cross country and track and field programs following a seventh-month stint with the ATP Tour. Her collegiate media relations career began at the University of Missouri where she worked as a student assistant in the Missouri athletic media relations office while also a member of the Tigers' women's basketball team. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 2005, Poole moved to Colorado where she served as an intern at the University of Denver for one year, working primarily with the women's soccer, swimming and diving and men's lacrosse teams.
