Packer Named Director of Athletic Communications & Sports Marketing at Allegheny College

Meadville, Pa. --  Allegheny College athletics director Betsy Mitchell has named Lauren Packer as the college’s director of athletic communications and sports marketing.  Packer replaces Bill Salyer, who joined the Athletic Communications staff at Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne.

“I’m very excited to join a strong tradition of academics and athletics at such a prestigious institution,” said Packer.  “I’m looking forward to this opportunity and I am extremely thankful.”

Packer’s primary responsibilities include overseeing promotion and publicity for Allegheny’s 21 Division III intercollegiate teams, the department’s special events and fundraisers and the maintenance of the athletics website.

“Lauren’s resume immediately stood out from a very strong pool of candidates,” explained Mitchell.  “Her experience at Edinboro and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference was exactly the kind of experience we needed as we start to work on our new marketing profile.”

Packer comes to Allegheny College after two years with the NCAA Division II PSAC, where she served one year as the director of media relations.  At the PSAC, she was responsible for promotion and publicity for the 14-member league and its 22 conference-sponsored sports.  Prior to that, she was a Sports Information graduate assistant at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, earning a master of arts in communication studies after graduating from Penn State University in 2004 with a B.S. in communication and media studies.
