Zalaznik Joins Union College (N.Y.) Sports Information Staff
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Kevin Zalaznik has been named assistant sports information director at Union College, Sports Information Director Eric McDowell announced today. Prior to joining the Union staff, Zalaznik served on the athletic communications staff at Syracuse University.
"I am very pleased to have Kevin join our department," McDowell said. "He has had outstanding experiences in the profession and he has developed extremely well thanks to the direction of the sports information professionals at Ithaca and Syracuse. His skills in publications and media relations will be a benefit to all our student-athletes at Union."
Zalaznik, a native of Bulger, Pa., will assist with the day-to-day public relations efforts of the athletic department and will serve as the primary media relations contact for the men and women's ice hockey programs.
"It's very exciting to be working at such a first-rate institution and I'm looking forward to working with the many fine programs at Union," Zalaznik said. "This is a great opportunity and I am pleased to be working alongside Eric."
While with the Orange, Zalaznik served as the primary athletic communications contact for the women's soccer, swimming and diving and softball programs. Additionally, he served as an assistant contact for the football and women's basketball teams. Zalaznik was responsible for pitching story ideas, writing press releases, facilitating interviews, maintaining the suathletics.com, supervising a student staff and creating media guides and brochures.
Prior to Syracuse, Zalaznik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sports information and communications with a minor in writing from Ithaca College. While enrolled at Ithaca, he served two years as a student assistant in the college's sports information office where his duties included covering the baseball, field hockey, men and women's soccer and men and women's basketball teams.
During the spring of 2006, Zalaznik served as the public relations intern for the London Towers, a professional basketball team in London, England. He was in charge of the majority of office duties as well as all public relations issues.
Zalaznik also served on the 2005 NCAA Men's Basketball Regional media relations staff in Syracuse, N.Y. and was a student assistant in the Orange's athletic communications office during the summer that same year.
