COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Deanna Werner has been named assistant media relations director at Texas A&M.
“Deanna has a wealth of experience not only in media relations but as a former athlete and coach as well,” Associate Athletic Director Alan Cannon said. “She is very creative and is a great addition to our staff.”
Werner will be responsible for publicity and media relations for A&M’s nationally-ranked soccer and softball programs. She served as a graduate assistant in the Arkansas women’s media relations department for the last two years, working primarily with softball and swimming. Werner assisted with soccer, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, track and field, cross country, golf and tennis.
Her 2008 swimming media guide was named third best in the nation by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Werner also created the first NCAA Women’s College World Series blog at the 2007 championship.
Werner served from 2004-06 as assistant sports information director at Illinois College, where she was responsible for all 18 varsity sports. From 2005-06, she also worked part time in the sports department of the Jacksonville (Ill.) Journal-Courier. She was a student assistant in the sports information department at Kalamazoo (Mich.) College from 2001-04.
Werner graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2004 with degrees in economics and business. She received her master’s degree in recreation and sports management from Arkansas in May.
Werner trained the Ecuadorian track and field team that competed in the 2003 Special Olympics Summer World Games.
