Jim Donovan Named Southland Conference Media Services Intern

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference has named Jim Donovan as its media services intern, assistant commissioner for communications Todd Lamb announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to have Jim join our staff,” Lamb said. “He is a talented writer and has a passion for sports. His enthusiasm and desire to get into sports information will be a tremendous asset for the Southland Conference.”

Donovan will contribute to the conference’s communication efforts for all 17 sports and will be directly responsible for men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track and field. He begins in that role immediately.

“This presents a great opportunity for me to expound on my love of sports,” Donovan said. “I’ve played in and covered various sports since a very young age, and I look forward to this opportunity as another fantastic challenge.”

Donovan most recently served as the sports editor for The McKinney Courier-Gazette, a daily newspaper in northern Collin County (Texas). In all he spent more than three years with Star Community Newspapers as an editor, reporter and photographer where he covered more than 20 amateur and professional sports.

A native of Oakton, Va., and longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, Donovan is a 2001 graduate of Plano West Senior High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, in addition to a certificate of merit from the Center for Sports Journalism, from the College of Communications at Penn State in 2005.

While a student, Donovan, 26, was an officer and active member of the Penn State Baseball Club, aiding the Nittany Lions to three National Club Baseball Association Regional Championships and a pair of NCBA World Series berths.
