Former Northern Iowa media relations director Nancy Justis inducted into UNI's Athletics Hall of Fame
Cedar Falls, IA- Former long-time University of Northern Iowa Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Nancy Justis recently was inducted into UNI's athletics Hall of Fame, receiving the Jitu D. Kothari Meritorious Service Award. She received the honor on October 17 during UNI's Hall of Fame ceremony.
Justis served as director of UNI's sports information office from 1979 until her retirement in 2006. She currently is co-publisher and senior editor of the quarterly magazine "Cedar Valley Athlete" and is owner of NancyJ Communications, a freelance and athletics media training company.
Justis spent 30 years in the UNI athletics media relations department, including 26 as director of media relations. Justis came to UNI in 1974 and began working as the assistant editor in the office of public relations, but moved to athletics and spent three years as the assistant media relations director.
Nancy was a long-time member of CoSIDA and served as the chair for the CoSIDA Career Enhancement Committee. She received the CoSIDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 which is given to members who have served at least 25 years in the profession (as of June of that year) who are retiring or leaving the profession.
In addition to Justis, the UNI 2009 Hall of Fame inductee class includes: the 1950 wrestling team, former wrestling coach Don Briggs, former women’s golfer Lisa Miller, former men’s swimmer Mark Onstott, and former track athlete Joey Woody.
