MINUTES OF COSIDA BOARD CALL
May 7, 2009
President Nick Joos did a roll call.
I. First Vice President Justin Doherty gave an update on the San Antonio Convention schedule. He said that Roy Pickerill was having problems finding people to fill some of the table topics. He asked that the board send suggestions of people to roy or volunteer for a topic. It was suggested that Justin could contact Sports Systems to get a list of who has already registered for the convention to pass along to Roy for possible presenters.
II. Joos said the Academic All-America awards were now being distributed for both Fall and Winter. He said there is a conference call tomorrow to confirm that everything is moving.
III. There was discussion of the CoSIDA web position. Joos suggested to the board that the web position could possibly be combined with the Academic All-America Awards Fulfillment position and use the combined salaries to create a fulltime position. There was discussion. The board agreed to proceed in that direction and Joos said he would work on the job descripion.
IV. CoSIDA wrote a letter to the NCAA concerning upcoming legislation concerning media guides. In response, the NCAA has asked Joos and Executive Director John Humenik to address the cabinet in June in California.
Humenik is preparing a Pro-Con document to distribute. At Large Representative Lawrence Fan suggested publicizing the event prior to the presentation. Humenik said he would prepare his information and secretary Jeff Hodges will do an advance article.
V. Humenik was invited to attend the Division I-A Athletic Director's Association meeting. Humenik is is one of three or four association directors asked to participate.
VI. Humenik said that CoSIDA's contract with NACDA was completed.
VII. Joos said that CoSIDA Parliamentarian Judy Willson would not be at the San Antonio Convention. He asked for suggestions for someone to fill in her role.
VIII. Humenik said that the Academic All-America Hall of Fame dinner be held at the convention hotel to assist CoSIDA in covering its food and beverage guarantees. College Division Representative Jim Seavey said he would be the contact person and would coordinate that event with the hotel. He will work in conjunction with Academic All-America Committee Chair Dick Lipe and CoSIDA Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter.
IX. Seavey said that letters had gone out to the Academic All-America Hall of Fame honorees.
X Second Vice President Larry Dougherty gave an update on the convention social calendar.
XI. Third Vice President Doug Walker had notified the board of the winners of CoSIDA's 2009 awards and was in the process of contacting the winners. He said he had much of the preliminary information done for the releases. There was discussion of moving some of the CoSIDA award presentation dates to balance out the number of speakers.

XII. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter said he and Humenik were developing a directory of major sponsors to distribute to the board in San Antonio. He said he was also still pursuing some past sponsors who are yet to renew.
XIII. Humenik said Joos had suggested inviting all the $5,000 and up CoSIDA sponsors to the Past Officer's Dinner. He said that the sponsor logos will also be included on the convention badges.
XIV. Humenik also discussed the sponsorship of the Academic All-America program. The current contract with ESPN The Magazine ends July 1 of 2010.
