Williams Returns to ISU Athletics Media Relations

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State University Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Todd Kober announced that Mike Williams will be returning to his alma mater to serve as the assistant media relations director beginning June 1. Williams replaces Keith Trivitt, who left in April to pursue a career outside of athletics.

"I'm truly excited about Mike returning to our staff," said Kober. "I've always valued Mike's character, loyalty and work ethic, but in the last two years, I've had the opportunity to admire his quality of work and professionalism. He is going to be a great addition to the staff, and I know that ISU head football coach Brock Spack and his staff are looking forward to working with Mike."

Williams is looking forward to being back at Illinois State.

"I'm extremely excited about returning to Illinois State University and the athletics media relations department," said Williams. "Having the chance to return to my alma mater and work in a department I love is dream come true for me. I thank Dr. Sheahon Zenger and Todd Kober for giving me this opportunity. I learned how to be a professional by working as a student assistant and graduate assistant at Illinois State, and I look forward to continuing my professional career at ISU."

For the last two years, Williams served a similar role at Indiana State. As the assistant director of media relations with the Sycamores, he was the primary contact for the men's basketball and cross country teams for two years. He was the primary media coordinator for the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships held in Terre Haute, Ind. In 2008, Williams also worked with the Indiana State track and field teams and in 2009 he was the primary contact for Sycamore football and baseball.

Prior to joining Indiana State, Williams worked three years in the Illinois State Athletics Media Relations Department, including the last two as a graduate assistant. With the Redbirds, Williams worked with the ISU baseball team for two seasons and was also the secondary contact for the football team.

In his new position at Illinois State, Williams will be the primary media contact for the Redbird football team.

The Lincoln, Ill., native earned his bachelor's degree from Illinois State in 2004, and his master's degree, also from ISU, in 2007.
