2009 CoSIDA Publications Contest Winners Announced

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (6/25/09) - More than 140 colleges, universities, and conference offices were honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for 2008-09 "Excellence in Publications" on Wednesday at the 52nd annual CoSIDA convention in San Antonio.

For Division I athletics, the University of Oklahoma led the nation with 21 citations, including "Best in the Nation" honors for its women's volleyball and postseason football media guides as well as "Best Cover" honors for its women's gymnastics guide.

The University of Kentucky and Louisiana State University received 17 honors each, while UCLA (16), Texas A&M University (15), Kansas State University (14), and Ohio State University (14) followed.

In Division II, Gene Cassell and Jeremy Wangler of Washburn University received eight citations, including four "Best in the Nation" honors for the football programs, women's soccer, women's basketball, and softball brochures, and "Best Cover" honors for the softball media guide.

Derek Smolik, Steve Weed, and Cindy Bostian of St. Mary's University [Texas] followed with six citations, including "Best in the Nation" for the baseball and softball postseason guides.

Steve Marovich, Chad Langhoff, and Mike Gryniewicz of Carthage College led Division C with 12 awards, including four "Best in the Nation" honors for the men's and women's swimming & diving, men's golf, women's track & field, and men's track & field media guides, and a "Best Cover" honor for the men's lacrosse guide.

Additionally, Chad Grubbs of Hardin-Simmons University ascended to assume the committee's chair duties for 2009-2010. Temple University's Cathy Bongiovi vacated the position after 12 years on the committee, serving the last four years as chair.
