CoSIDA Members: Are you planning on nominating student-athletes for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® All-District/All-America honors? Nominations open next week (Sept. 30), and to nominate, you MUST be a current 2009-10 dues-paying member of CoSIDA. Please read the letter below from Dick Lipe, Chair of the Academic All-America Committee.
Dear CoSIDA Members:
As you are aware, the nomination deadlines for the fall ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® programs are fast approaching.
Soccer (men’s and women’s) nominations will be accepted beginning NEXT Wednesday, Sept. 30, through 6 p.m. (EASTERN time) on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Nominations for football and women’s volleyball will be open from Oct. 6-20. Mark these dates on your calendar and make sure you keep in mind each of the two points emphasized below.
Please don't penalize a deserving student-athlete from your school who is not able to be placed into Academic All-America® consideration due to your lack of meeting appropriate deadlines and nomination criteria.
Two important things to keep in mind in regards to nominations:
1. Late nominations will not be accepted. There will be NO expections. Nominations are shut off at 6 pm ET on the final nomination day, so make sure to plan to get your nominations in on time.
2. You must be a CoSIDA member in order to access the online nominating system. If you haven't already renewed your dues for 2009-10, please take the time to do that now, in advance of the Academic All-America deadlines.
Dues can be paid online at
http://www.cosida.com/register.aspx. There also is information at that page of how to pay your dues via mail (look for the "Prefer to Sign Up/Renew via Mail?" banner and the PDF form to pay dues directly to CoSIDA treasurer Dave Wohlhueter; his address is listed in the middle of that PDF).
If you are not sure if your dues are paid, check the CoSIDA directory at
www.cosida.com/directory.aspx. Enter your name; if there is a CoSIDA logo next to your name, you are all set. If the logo is missing, your dues need to be taken care of ASAP.
If you are having any technical difficulties with your Academic All-America® nominations, or if you don’t receive a confirmation email after submitting your nominations, please fill out the technical service report on the nomination page.
Academic All-America® Hall of Fame nominationsAlso, a reminder that nominations for the Academic All-America® Hall of Fame currently are being accepted through Oct. 28 at
http://www.cosida.com/aa/default.aspx. Nominations that were submitted last year can be updated, and new nominations can also be submitted between now and October 28.
In addition to nominating former Academic All-America honorees from your institution who are deserving, please keep in mind our "Honorary" category. This would include those former student-athletes who competed before the AAA program existed in their sport (football before 1952, men's basketball before 1963, baseball before 1970, women's basketball before 1980, volleyball before 1982, and all other sports before 1983).
Thanks for your continuing support of CoSIDA's highly-successful and visible Academic All-America® program.
If you have any questions on the AAA program, please feel free to contact me (
rlipe@bentley.edu, or via phone at 781/891-2334).
Sincerely,
Dick Lipe
