Ball State's media relations staff attended the second annual NCAA Media Relations Forum in Indianapolis at the NCAA National Office.

The one-day professional development seminar is designed for all NCAA schools in the state. This year's event was attended by personnel from Ball State, Purdue, Notre Dame, IPFW, IUPUI, Indianapolis, DePauw, Wabash and a host of other schools.

Ball State boasted the largest contingent of staff members in attendance with Joe Hernandez, Brad Caudill, Paula Haughn, Matt McCollester and Lauren Dale all present for the day.

"Professional development is something I believe very strongly in for myself and the staff," associate athletic director Hernandez says. "It is important for us to stay current with the changes in our profession, but also just as important to meet and renew acquaintances with our peers. The NCAA has done an outstanding job putting this together, and they have made it an emphasis to include media relations professionals in the decision making process. We truly appreciate their efforts and look forward to the continued growth of this event."

Hosted by the NCAA Staff, including J.D. Hamilton and Ball State alum Jim Wright, the forum focused on all areas of media relations. Indianapolis media members Jeff Rabjohns (Indianapolis Star), Michael Pointer (Indianapolis Star) and Rich Nye (WTHR-TV) all presented to the group.

In addition, a number of NCAA staff members participated in the day and gave those in attendance a preview of the upcoming improvements to www.ncaa.com. The program included presentations from Stat Crew, the statistical software used by the vast majority of schools in all divisions, plus an overview of NCAA Championships. The group also discussed the issues dealing with social media and the pros and cons of this as a source for mainstream media.
