OXFORD, Ohio - Dave Young, the longest tenured sports information director in Miami University history, passed away Monday at the age of 69. Young served Miami from 1967 through 1991.

A 1992 inductee into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame, Young also is a member of the Miami Athletics Hall of Fame, being inducted in 1995.

During his Miami career, Young served as the official scorer at more than 1,800 Redskin baseball games. In 2003, the Miami baseball team and athletic department officially named the pressbox at McKie Field at Hayden Park in Young's name, "The Dave Young Press Box".

The native of Bowling Green, Ohio began his career as the sports editor of Bowling Green High School's newspaper, then assumed a similar role for three years at Bowling Green State University. Upon his graduation from BGSU in 1962, he was assistant publicity director at West Virginia University for three years, then became sports information director at Ohio Wesleyan.

Young joined Miami's staff in 1967, serving with such Cradle of Coaches football luminaries as Bo Schembechler, Bill Mallory, Dick Crum, Jim Tressel and Randy Walker, as well as legendary Miami coach Bud Middaugh.

Young is survived by his wife Marilyn, sons Scott (Annette) and Jay (Carrie), and his grandchildren: Nick, Nichole, Megan, Michelle, Julie, Julian, Jonathan and Jameson.
