Selheimer’s career marked by quarter-century at the University of Delaware

At the CoSIDA Convention in July, long-time Delaware Assistant AD for Media Relations Scott Selheimer will be recognized for his 25 years of service to collegiate athletics.



NEWARK, Del. –
University of Delaware Assistant Athletic Director, Media Relations Scott Selheimer will receive the College Sports Information Director’s of America 25-year Award on Tuesday, July 6, in San Francisco, Calif.

Selheimer will receive the award at a luncheon ceremony during CoSIDA’s annual convention at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis.

The CoSIDA 25-Year Award is presented to sports information directors who have completed 25 years in the profession.

Selheimer, 47, oversees the publicity for the University of Delaware's NCAA Division I 22-sport athletics program. He recently completed his 25th year with the institution and his 19th as the assistant director of athletics, media relations.

Selheimer’s primary responsibilities include serving as athletics liaison with the local, regional, and national media, working and traveling with the Blue Hen football program and assisting with the men's and women’s basketball teams, preparing press releases on athletes and coaches, compiling statistics, coordinating and updating the University of Delaware athletics website, and producing media publications.

A native of Ambler, Pa., Selheimer is a 1985 graduate of Millersville (Pa.) University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing with a minor in journalism.

Since arriving at the University of Delaware in 1985, Selheimer has won several CoSIDA awards for his writing and media publications. He edited the 1990 and 1997 University of Delaware football media guides that were judged "Best in the Nation.”

In addition, his 1991, 1992 and 1993 football guides were judged "Second in the Nation” and he co-edited four football guides that have been rated "Third in the Nation." He also edited the 1998 University of Delaware Gameday Football Program that was judged “Fourth in the Nation.”

Selheimer is a member of CoSIDA and is currently a member of the Academic All-American Committee. He previously served as assistant chair of the CoSIDA Charity Committee and served three years on the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee.

In June of 2009, Selheimer was honored with the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association convention. The Marsh Award is given annually to a member of ECAC-SIDA who has exhibited excellence in the field of sports information.

He previously served two years as president of the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association and also is a former president of the East Coast Conference Sports Information Directors.

Selheimer is active with New Castle Presbyterian Church and has served as a youth baseball coach and umpire in Newark.

He and his wife, Amy, a fifth-grade teacher at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in the Christina School District, reside in Newark. They have a son, Kyle, 17.
