Northwestern’s Mike Wolf garners CoSIDA’s 2010 Lester Jordan Award for outstanding service to Academic All-America® Committee

The Lester Jordan Award is presented annually for exemplary service to the Academic All-America Award program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete. Wolf has served on the AAA Committee since 1987 and is the national coordinator for university division programs in football and men’s at-large categories.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Mike Wolf, assistant athletics director for athletic communications at Northwestern University and a member of Academic All-America® Committee since 1987, will be honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as the recipient of the 2010 Lester Jordan Award.

The Lester Jordan Award has been presented annually since 1994 to an individual (or organization) for exemplary service to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America award program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete.

Wolf will receive the honor on Tuesday evening, July 6, at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, Calif., during CoSIDA’s Hall of Fame Gala. At that Gala, the CoSIDA Hall of Fame Class of 2010 will be enshrined along with the Academic All-America® Hall of Fame Class of 2010.

Wolf began his tenure on the Academic All-America Committee in 1987 as a district coordinator and has served as a national coordinator since 1996. Currently, he is the national coordinator for university division programs in football and men’s at-large.

A 1984 graduate of Quincy University in Quincy, Ill., with a bachelor of science degree in business management and administration, Wolf served as the student sports information director at his alma mater while attending school. Following graduation, he assumed the post of assistant athletic director for media relations and sports information director at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., holding that title from 1984-98.

After 14 years at Washington University, he moved to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and served as the assistant athletics director external affairs and director of media relations from 1998-2001. In 2001 he was named assistant athletic director for athletic communications at Northwestern.

Wolf has earned 88 CoSIDA publication award citations that have included 48 "Best in the Nation" Honors. A member of CoSIDA since 1983, he also has served on the Publications and Certification Committee (1986-87).

Wolf has served on the United States Olympic Committee’s (USOC) media relation’s staffs at several national and international events. In 1995 he was selected as a press officer for the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where he worked with the men’s and women’s tennis teams.

In 1996, he performed that same role for the men’s and women’s tennis teams at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. He also served as a USOC press officer and venue media coordinator at the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival in St. Louis.

Wolf has been part of media relations staffs at several NCAA Championship events, including the 1994 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four in Charlotte, N.C.
