NYU's Jeff Bernstein selected President of ECAC-SIDA for 2010-11
Bernstein, NYU's Assistant AD for Sports Information, has been involved in ECAC-SIDA for 28 years. He will serve a one-year term as president.
New York University Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information Jeffrey Bernstein officially began a one-year stint as president of the ECAC-SIDA (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference - Sports Information Directors Association) on Friday at the chapter’s annual conference held in North Falmouth, MA.
Serving at NYU since October, 1999, Bernstein has been involved with ECAC-SIDA since the start of his career in 1982. As a precursor to stepping into the organization’s presidential rotation, he was elected to the ECAC-SIDA Board of Directors as its Chairman of Membership Services in 2004.
Following the 2006-07 academic year, Bernstein received the organization’s 25-Year Service Award.
“I’ve been a member of this organization for a long time, so it’s an honor and a privilege to be able to serve as president,” Bernstein said. “Hopefully, I can help the organization grow during this exciting and dynamic time in the field of sports information.”
Bernstein’s responsibilities as president will include working with marketing aspects of the organization, overseeing the Board of Directors, helping to plan the June 2011 workshop in Rochester, NY, and fostering overall growth of ECAC-SIDA.
“NYU values its position as a charter member of the ECAC. We are always ready to be of service to the Association, so it is a particular pleasure to have Jeff fill this position," said Christopher Bledsoe, NYU's Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation. "ECAC-SIDA will benefit from his leadership.”
A 1982 graduate of St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic administration, Bernstein began his work in intercollegiate athletics as the Sports Information Director at Hunter College from 1982-88. While there, he also served as the Director of Media Relations for the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
From 1988-99, Bernstein worked as the Director of Sports Media Relation at Manhattan College, a NCAA Division I program in Riverdale, NY.
A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the United States Basketball Writers’ Association (USBWA), Bernstein has also served on NYU’s Student Affairs Professional Development Committee.
