CONVENTION IN REVIEW:

2010 Convention Workshop Registration

ONLINE PREREGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE WAS JUNE 11.

Individuals who wish to register after Friday, June 11 will pay ON-SITE at the Convention. Those rates are: $325 for non-CoSIDA members, $225 for CoSIDA members and $225 each for spouses, friends and children.

Dress Code: With the exception of Tuesday’s Hall of Fame Gala (business dress), all receptions, programs and meals are business casual or casual dress attire. Please no tennis shoes, beach sandals, t-shirts or athletic apparel. Your cooperation is expected.

      Communicators are being tasked with reputation management in corporations and universities alike. In this session, we'll discuss the changing environment, the basic elements of reputation and how your to-do list has impact.

Ben Porritt is a partner and Senior Strategist of Outside Eyes. He is a strategy team leader for major corporate clients and lead Strategist for crisis projects. Prior to joining Outside Eyes, Porritt served as the Press Secretary for Majority Leader in the House of Representatives. Before that, Porritt served as Deputy Communication Director for Department of Justice and Deputy Press Secretary for the 55th Presidential inaugural Committee. Porritt also served as a Spokesman during the 2004 presidential campaign after working in the White House Communications Office. Porritt has worked with the media on national and regional scale and has been interviewed on television and radio outlets across the country.

As former White House press secretary, Ari Fleischer was the primary spokesperson for President Bush. He served as spokesman during the historic presidential recount, September 11th, two wars and the anthrax attack. His best-selling book, Taking Heat, details his years in the White House and reached #7 on The New York Times best-seller list. Since leaving the White House, Fleischer has worked extensively in the world of sports. He has helped Major League Baseball deal with its controversies, as well as its opportunities, and he has worked for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association. He also helps advise several major corporations about their communications issues.

It's the hot PR buzz term of the moment: strategic communications.  But what does it really mean? And how do you really do it? In this presentation, the NCAA's Erik Christianson will describe how the NCAA retooled its Public and Media Relations group from a reactive, just-answer-the-phones office to a unit focused on strategic communications and issues management. And he will unveil the NCAA's strategic communications roadmap, how it was developed, and how that model of communications planning and strategy can be utilized at campuses and conferences regardless of size or resources.
       
Following the presentation, CoSIDA members will move into breakout sessions by NCAA division for further discussion of strategic communications, respective to their divisional strategic positioning initiatives.

- Tickets are $26 and must be paid for on site in San Francisco during the annual convention. Tickets will be distributed by Rob Knox on Sunday, July 4 (10 am-2:30 pm) and Monday, July 5 (2-3 pm) in the registration area. Checks for $26.00 per ticket can be made out to "CoSIDA".
- Each CoSIDA member registered for the conference is limited to purchase a maximum of four tickets.
- If you want to sit in the same ticket area as some one else, please come together to pay for your tickets or have the money needed for all of the tickets at the time of purchase.


- TRANSPORTATION TO THE GAME: There is public transportation available from San Francisco to Oakland via BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority). It is about a 25-minute trip from the hotel to the game. You must take the Fremont-bound train, get off at the Coliseum station and use the walkway to the stadium. Round trip fare from the Montgomery or Powell Street stations to the Coliseum is $7.60.

Public Transportation In and Around San Francisco, Oakland Airports


- One-way subway/train fare via the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority (BART) from San Francisco International Airport to the Powell Street station (closest to Marriott Marquis) is $8.10.

- Cab fare from San Francisco airport to Marriott Marquis is approximately $50.00 with tip. The Blue Super Shuttle service - with no discounts - is $17.00.

- One also can use BART from the Oakland International Airport/Coliseum station to Powell Street for $3.80 each way. There is a bus bridge that gets you from Oakland International to the Coliseum station.
