CoSIDA Convention Presentation: Putting together an effective social media policy (by Chris Syme, Montana State, and CoSIDA Chair of New Media/Technology Commitee)


Christine Syme, Montana State assistant sports information director and the 2010-11 chair of CoSIDA's New Media/Technology Committee, presented her social media policy guidelines during "Digital Summit Day" during the CoSIDA Convention on July 7.

Syme's four questions on establishing a social media policy for your campus/athletic department are:
1. Do you have a social media strategic plan?
2. What resources can you dedicate?
3. Is your administration on board?
4. Who will manage it (social media)? 

Syme covered the key elements for social media policy/planning, including your purpose, guidelines and procedures, and addressed CoSIDA member questions which had been emailed to her - or asked - prior to the panel. She also provided a detailed "summer reading list" on social media topics and gave a "blog roll" of social media leaders and organizations to follow.
