MEMBERSHIP INITIATIVES FOR 2010-11
For all current CoSIDA colleagues and those who are interested in joining CoSIDA:
At the July annual Convention, the CoSIDA Board of Directors voted to put a new membership payment and directory update process into place for 2010-11.
For those of you who already have renewed membership for 2010-11, thank you.
For those who have yet to renew membership or pay for a membership, the Board established a cutoff date – a NEW procedure – for 2010-11 membership dues to be paid without penalty. That date was September 15, 2010.
And, along with paying your membership dues, each CoSIDA member and new member are asked to go online and update his/her respective individual directory information and school/conference/affiliation page of information as well.
All 2010-11 membership dues are payable by Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, for those who currently fit the categories below.
If your 2010-11 dues are not paid by Sept. 15, a late fee of $30.00 will be assessed.
EXCEPTIONS TO THIS LATE FEE: Any first-time CoSIDA member, and any professional who is in transition or changing jobs after Sept. 15, will pay only the regular membership fees listed below ($25.00, $75.00 or $80.00). The late fee will be assessed to only those currently in positions as of Sept. 15.
The reasons for this new membership payment policy and directory initiative are two-fold:
First, the CoSIDA leadership is aiming to make our online information as relevant and updated as possible. Frankly, our online directory is not accurate, and without accuracy, the directory does not serve as a viable information tool and is not a positive reflection of our organization. Accuracy and relevancy (with correct names, positions, email and website addresses, mailing info, etc.) will assist CoSIDA – and those using the directory – greatly as we move ahead with numerous membership initiatives.
Second, with 2010-11 dues paid by September 15, this will tremendously lessen confusion around the Academic All-America nomination and voting period which begins on October 1. Per CoSIDA policy, only active 2010-11 members can nominate deserving student-athletes for Academic All-America® honors, and only active members can vote for Academic All-District Teams. CoSIDA is seeking to avoid last-minutes mistakes and errors around the Academic All-America® nomination and voting periods by ensuring that memberships are activated in advance.
Membership Categories and Login/Payment & Directory Update Information
Active ($75) – those who work at a college/university/conference media relations office or affiliated office
Associate ($80)- those who are employed at an organization which works in – or with – intercollegiate athletics – but is not working directly on a campus or in a conference office
Student ($25) – graduate assistants, graduate students/interns, undergraduate students/interns

When you log into your CoSIDA account, you will be prompted to update your directory information by a new screen. Please take the time to make sure your info – especially your full school name as you wish for it to appear on any awards/Academic All-America honors and certificates, and your MAILING address (not P.O. Boxes) - is updated.
For 2010-11 - NO P.O. Box numbers will be accepted in the Academic All-America nomination system.
Again, we ask that you please update your directory information and pay your 2010-11 dues by Wednesday, Sept. 15 to ensure that:
(1) your information is properly listed in the PDF directory posted on the website and our directory is a relevant resource
(2) you pay only the regular dues rates and are not charged a late fee (effective AFTER Sept. 15, 2010, unless you are hired at a new position after that point in time)
(3) you are among the active members who can nominate and vote for deserving student-athletes - for ESPN Academic All-America honors. That voting process begins in early October, and ONLY current (dues-paying 2010-11 members) may nominate and vote.
