On Friday, Feb. 18, the University of Miami will become the first college athletics department to "shut down" its official website for one day. The athletics communications staff will relay on social media to conduct all its business and communications.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - As campus preps for the 2011 `Canes Baseball season opener on Friday, Feb. 18, the Miami athletics web staff will be holding its first ever Social Media Day.

HurricaneSports.com) for a full business day and communicate solely through social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, UStream, YouTube and an unprecedented 14 hours of Live Chats with Hurricane coaches and standout student-athletes.
From 8 a.m. (Eastern) through the final out of the Miami baseball season opener against Rutgers, the staff of HurricaneSports.com will forget its official website - HurricaneSports.com - and communicate directly with fans through 14-plus hours of live chats, tweets and Facebook posts.

To cap off Social Media Day, UM will debut multi-camera broadcast coverage of every pitch from the Hurricanes season opener. The video team behind Canes All-Access successfully tested the streaming broadcast during the Alumni Game and Home Run Derby last weekend and will take it to the free UStream platform for the Friday night game.
