This is the first in a series of profiles and features on CoSIDA's 2011 Special Award recipients. We begin with Ann King - a 2006 CoSIDA Hall of Fame inductee - who will receive the 25-Year Award at June's CoSIDA Convention (June 26-29) at the Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort in Marco Island, Florida.

ANN KING
Ann King is currently in her 25th year as a sports information director and in her second year at The Sage Colleges. Prior to landing in New York State, she spent over 17 years as the SID at The College of New Jersey. Prior to coming to the Ewing campus in February of 1992, she served for six years as SID at her alma mater, Drew University in Madison, NJ.
At Sage, she handles all facets of sports information for the growing Division III athletic program and also serves as a mentor and advisor for the Gators’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
While at TCNJ, she handled all publicity for The College’s 20 varsity sports and wrote and edited all media guides and event programs while also maintaining The College’s athletic web site.
King is a member of both CoSIDA and the Eastern College Athletic Directors Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA). During the summer of 1999, she was named to CoSIDA’s Board of Directors and served a three-year term as a College Division Representative from 1999-2002.
During her career, 16 of her publications have received CoSIDA awards, including five "Best in the Nation" laurels. She currently is in her second year on CoSIDA’s Special Awards Committee and previously served on CoSIDA’s Site Selection Committee, holding the Vice Chair title for the East Region before the committee was disbanded. King has also worked on CoSIDA's Workshop Social Committee, where she served as the Vice Chair of the committee for three years. Additionally, King served on the CoSIDA Digest and Website Editorial Committee, the Workshop Program Committee, and the Academic All-America Committee.
In 1995, King was named to the Board of Directors of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) and served as the organization’s secretary until 2002, when she was named the organization’s first vice president and served as the group’s president for the 2003-2004 academic year.
One of the founders of FAME (Female Athletic Media Relations Executives), King has been active in the creation of an organization whose mission is to discuss issues facing women in the sports media relations field and to develop appropriate strategies to deal with those issues. FAME members are committed to encouraging and mentoring all women working in athletic media relations as a career. In January of 2008, she was chosen to serve as the first president of FAME, a role she held until the fall of 2010.
While at TCNJ, she served as host SID for 15 NCAA Championship events, 55 NCAA Regional tournaments as well as numerous conference tournaments.
Over the past 20 years, King has made several presentations at both the ECAC-SIDA and CoSIDA Convention workshops on various topics. She currently is on the D-III SIDA board as well as a member of the College Division Management Advisory Committee.
King was honored with the 2003 CoSIDA Warren Berg Award, presented annually to a college division member who has made outstanding contributions to athletic communications and who has brought dignity and prestige to the profession.
King received the Berg Award in Cleveland at the CoSIDA workshop and became the 19th College Division SID chosen for the distinction, while also becoming the first female SID tapped for the honor. That same year, she was named the recipient of the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding SID Award (achievement for college football sports information and publicity). In the summer of 2006, King was elected to CoSIDA's Hall of Fame and earned the Irving T. Marsh Award for the College Division from ECAC-SIDA in 2007.
She is married to Tracy King, a former SID himself. The couple resides in Halfmoon, N.Y. with their five-year old son, Robert.
