NCAA Division III communications successes: A message from the NCAA national office

Message to NCAA Division III sports information professionals from Kat Krtnick, NCAA Assistant Director of Communications (kkrtnick@ncaa.org)

TREMENDOUS PARTICIPATION RATE DURING BASKETBALL SEASON

The NCAA Statistics Department would like to thank the Division III Sports Information Offices for making the 2010-11 game-by-game XML submission a great success.

Division III submitted 11,679 basketball games (5,743 - MBB/5,936 - WBB) during the 2010-11 campaign. This year, SIDs were asked to submit the game XML for each game played the previous week by 2 p.m. every Monday, instead of the previous practice of each conference providing the XML files.

After an apprehensive start, the results were amazing. Only six, again only six out of 11,685 games played this year, were not reported - that's a 99.9 percent participation rate!

DIVISION III FACEBOOK PAGE - HELP US GROW ITS POPULARITY!

The Division III Facebook page - a place for the Division III community to showcase its exceptional student-athlete stories and to serve as discussion forum about divisional issues, accomplishments and campus community service endeavors - launched on Monday, April 11 with an overwhelming response.

In the first 24 hours, over 1,300 fans flocked to the page, expressing their enthusiasm and passion for the new Division III communication platform. As of Friday, April 15, the page has over 1,700 fans.

The Division III staff strongly encourages SIDs at each institution and conference office to jump onboard, to spread the excitement about this page to their administrators, coaches and student-athletes, and to utilize this tool to share stories and grow the appreciation of the division.

The Division III team is always looking for exemplary stories, so please feel free to submit YOURS to Kat Krtnick, NCAA Assistant Director of Communications, at kkrtnick@ncaa.org.
