Metro State's Any Schlichting named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference SID of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
  – Metropolitan State’s Andy Schlichting has been selected as the 2011 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Director of the Year. The award is voted on by the NCAA Division II league’s 14 sports information directors. He is the first SID from Metro State to win the award.

Schlichting joined Metropolitan State College of Denver athletics staff in February 2009 and was voted as a top three finalist for the award in 2009-10.

He is responsible for publicizing Roadrunner athletics through the media and Metro State's website (www.gometrostate.com) by creating press releases and overseeing statistics and records, as well as nominating student-athletes for conference and national awards. He also oversees game management. Schlichting is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and serves as the regional coordinator for Daktronics All-America men’s basketball. He is also a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national poll and All-America committees.

"This was a shock to say the least and I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers," Schlichting said. "I would like to thank [Director of Athletics] Joan McDermott and the entire Metro State administration for the support they have given me.  The resources our department and staff are provided make success the norm for all of our athletics teams and that continues into the sports information department.  The family atmosphere and close relationships between our administrators and coaches allows me to look foward to coming to the campus every day."

The Chaska, Minn. Native received his bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in business administration in December 2006 from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. A four-year letterwinner for the Mustangs football team, Schlichting also spent two years as a graduate assistant in athletic communications from SMSU.

Schlichting will be awarded the J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Director of the Year plaque at the 2011 RMAC Hall of Fame & Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 24 at the Colorado Springs Marriott.

J. W. Campbell was a long-time sports information director at Western State College. He was also the assistant to the Western State President, an assistant professor, teaching seven separate disciplines and was the school’s information director. He also co-authored two books and wrote numerous articles for magazines and trade publications. Campbell, who passed away in March 2000, was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in July 2007.

Con Marshall, who resigned from the sports information directors post from Chadron State College in 2007 after 36 years, continues to assist in the promotions of Chadron State and its athletics programs. A native of Chadron and a CSC graduate, Marshall’s named was added to the award in 2007. He has received a 25-Year Award from CoSIDA and served on the Harlon Hill Award Selection Committee.
