CoSIDA Elects News Officers and Board of Directors members for 2011-12

MARCO ISLAND, Florida – The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have chosen a new set of officers and Board of Director members to serve the professional athletic communications asssociation for the 2011-12 academic year and beyond.

Tom DiCamillo will serve as the 56th President of CoSIDA for a one-year term in 2011-12. DiCamillo currently serves as Director of Media and Community Events at Central Arizona College and as the PacWest Conference Assistant Commissioner, Media Relations. He becomes the second person to assume the president’s role from the college division in CoSIDA history.

DiCamillo replaces Larry Dougherty, Temple University Associate Athletics Director/Athletic Communications, who served as President in 2010-11. DiCamillo was CoSIDA's first Vice President during 2010-11.

The passing of the gavel and the announcement of the new officers and Board members took place in conjunction with the annual CoSIDA Convention, which took place June 26-29 at the Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort in Marco Island, Florida.

Also elected to serve the 2,700-member CoSIDA organization for the 2011-12 term and in the presidential rotation are 1st Vice President Joe Hornstein, Associate Director of Athletics/Public Relations and Communication at UCF; 2nd Vice President Shelly Poe, Ohio State University Director of Athletic Communications; and 3rd Vice President Eric McDowell, Union College (NY) Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Information.

“I am greatly appreciative of the honor to serve as CoSIDA President for 2011-12 and to follow in the footsteps of tremendous individuals who have been in the CoSIDA leadership role,” said DiCamillo. “We just concluded a terrific Convention this week, and I congratulate Larry Dougherty and thank him for his wonderful leadership this year. To be only the second college division president of our 2,700-plus member organization of athletic communicators is an absolute privilege. My goal is to keep CoSIDA’s tremendous momentum going as we move into 2011-12 and then into our partnership with NACDA in 2013.”

In addition to the officers, the following will serve terms of three years on the CoSIDA Board of Directors. Elected to represent the College Division are Mark Fleming (Moravian College), Northeast Region; Cindy Fotti (Columbia College), Central Region and Dave Walters (Guilford College), South Region . All these terms run through 2014.

The slate of 2011-12 candidates were nominated by the membership during the spring semester and were selected by the CoSIDA Nominating Committee, comprised of the organization's past presidents and out-going Board of Director members. That Committee was chaired by Charles Bloom, Associate Commissioner of Media Relations at the Southeastern Conference, CoSIDA third Past President.

The current CoSIDA Past Presidents serving on the 2011-12 Board are immediate Past President Larry Dougherty (serving through 2014), Wisconsin's Justin Doherty (serving through 2013), and Nick Joos of Baylor (through 2012).

Those currently serving on the Board of Directors are at-large representatives Kent Brown (University of Illinois); Joe Browning (UNC -Wilmington); Ed Hill of Howard University and John Paquette (Big East Conference), along with College Division representatives Chris Day (Adams State), Rob Knox (Kutztown) and Dave Wrath (Augustana).

Dave Wohlhueter (Cornell, retired) continues to serve in his role as CoSIDA Treasurer while Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) continues as Secretary/Digest Editor. Ex-Officio members are CoSIDA Executive Director John Humenik, Director of External Affairs Barb Kowal and new Director of Internal Affairs/Treasurer Will Roleson.
