RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons University was voted by its peers as the winner of the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Department of the Year award for the 2010-11 academic season. HSU was honored on Monday (Aug. 1) during the annual ASC SID meeting in Dallas.

HSU’s Sports Information Director is Chad Grubbs, who has served in that capacity for the past 11 years. Grubbs received assistance from graduate assistant Teddi Crenwelge during the 2010-11 year.

Grubbs, who received his bachelor’s degree from Okalahoma State and master’s from Hardin-Simmons, works with all of HSU’s 12 sports. He oversees all game-day media operations, manages press boxes at all home events and coordinates the production of the university’s media guides and game programs. Grubbs also launched and handles the HSU athletic website, www.hsuathletics.com. He regularly broadcasts basketball, baseball and softball games on the internet.

Grubbs is an active member in College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), where he has served as the national chair of the publications contest and was recently selected as a College Division Management Advisory Council regional representative. He also serves on the Division III Sports Information Oversight Committee and is a national top 25 voter for football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and baseball. He will serve as chair of the ASC Sports Information Directors for the 2011-12 academic year.

“Chad is always looking for new ways to publicize our student-athletes and their accomplishments,” HSU Athletic Director John Neese said. “He promotes all of our teams equally and he works tirelessly to make sure our alumni, parents and friends are informed of the achievements of HSU athletics. He is well deserving of this award and the HSU community is appreciative of his efforts to enhance the experience of the student-athlete.”

In 2010-11, Grubbs and his staff handled the media duties for the ASC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, the first round of the ASC Baseball Championship Tournament and NCAA Division III playoff games for women’s soccer. He provided coverage for 10 ASC tournament-qualifying teams, two ASC title squads, two NCAA tournament participants, one national team champion and a league-high 11 all-Americans.

The ASC Sports Information Department of the Year award is presented by following voting by the membership’s SID’s. All departments are eligible for the honor. The 2010-11 award is the third in the history of the league. Texas Lutheran University (Tim Clark and Patrick Zarate) took the inaugural honor in 2008-09 before the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Jon Wallin) was honored in 2009-10.
