Deadline Extended! Giant Steps Awards nominations now open through Feb. 24 in conjunction with National STUDENT-Athlete Day

Note: The deadline for submitting nominees for a Giant Steps award has been extended from Feb. 17 to FRIDAY, Feb. 24.

April 6, 2012 marks the 25th celebration of National STUDENT-Athlete Day. High school and college student-athletes nationwide will be honored for achieving excellence in academics and athletics, while making significant contributions to their schools and communities. National STUDENT-Athlete Day is celebrated annually and has seen 3,180,498 million student-athletes honored, nationwide, since 1997.

In conjunction with the celebration of National STUDENT-Athlete Day, Giant Step Awards are also given on the national level. Nominations are now being accepted and are given to individuals in the categories of coach, civic leaders, courageous student-athletes, athletics administrators, and more. It has become one of America’s strongest endeavors promoting the positive virtues of sport and student-athletes as a whole, and the positive affect they both have on society.

CoSIDA members are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals. This LINK will take you to the specific part of the website that goes over the Giant Steps program, its requirements and nominating procedures. The deadline for making nominations is Friday February 24 (original deadline was Feb. 17).

On April 6 as National STUDENT-Athlete Day is nationally recognized, winners of the Giant Steps Awards will be announced.

National STUDENT-Athlete Day is a program of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and is co-sponsored by the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

Present your school’s outstanding student-athletes with National STUDENT-Athlete Day award certificates, provided to you at no cost, hold an event on campus and let your community know about how your student-athletes are achieving excellence.
