Kimberly Wenger, Associate Director of the Centennial Conference, has been named the recipient of the 2012 CoSIDA Rising Star Award for the College Division. The Associate Director of the Centennial Conference, Wenger will be honored at the 2012 CoSIDA workshop on June 24 in St. Louis.
“I am truly honored to have been selected for the Rising Star award,” Wenger said, and added, “I am so appreciative of my colleagues who nominated me for this honor. There are so many hardworking and dedicated individuals working in this profession that it is a very humbling experience that CoSIDA’s Special Awards Committee chose me for this award.”
"Kim is a very worthy choice for the Rising Star Award,” noted Steve Ulrich, Commissioner of the Centennial Conference. He added, “She is highly-respected among not only the Conference's sports information directors, but also among the Division III conference SIDs. Kim has been a spokeswoman at the national level for the profession and has great things in store for her. All of us in the Centennial Conference are proud of her accomplishments."
A graduate of Lock Haven University, Wenger earned her bachelor of arts degree in journalism and mass communications in 1999. She first entered the profession as an intern with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for the summer after graduation and then accepted an internship position at Longwood College, now known as Longwood University, for a year. Wenger went on to spend two years on the staff of Kutztown University as a graduate assistant. She worked with the Golden Bears’ 21 NCAA Division II athletic teams in the sports information office, while also assisting the Director of Athletic Advancement in the planning and publicity of on-campus promotions for athletics. She also garnered her Masters’ degree in electronic media from Kutztown in December of 2003.
Wenger was hired as the Assistant Director of the Centennial Conference in July, 2002. She served as a staff liaison with selected coaches’ committee and at selected Centennial Conference Championships. Wenger assisted in all aspects of the sports information and media relations for the league’s 24 NCAA Division III sports. In addition to her role in the office, Kim has served as the staff liaison to the NCAA for statistics and as the Conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) liaison.

Wenger was promoted to the role of Associate Director of the Centennial Conference in the summer of 2008. In her new role, she assists Centennial Conference members with both NCAA and Centennial compliance issues. She has also been active as a representative at Commissioner and NCAA meetings. Wenger also was instrumental in the creation and oversight of the Centennial Conference’s SAAC Annual Leadership Workshop (Wenger is pictured with SAAC members, right) and her expertise was also tapped to coordinate the hiring officials for the 15 conference championship events.
In 2011, she was named as a NCAA site representative for the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships hosted by Messiah College, and also worked the 2010 NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships held at Gettysburg College.
In the summer of 2011, she was selected to attend and graduated from the prestigious NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement and was the recipient of the NCAA Division III Scholarship to attend the 2011 West Institute in Denver.
Active in the profession, Kim was tapped for the Division III-SIDA Board of Directors in 2009 and serves in her capacity as a conference representative. Wenger served as the Vice Chair of CoSIDA’s NCAA Legislation Services Committee in 2010-11 after a seven-year stint on the committee. She currently serves on CoSIDA’s Membership Services Committee. Wenger was selected to serve on the NCAA Advisory Board for Statistics and Records, a committee she served for three years, culminating with her selection as committee chair in 2010-11.
More recently, she was selected by her colleagues this past summer to lead the Conference Assistant Sports Information Directors Committee and is serving as the chair for the 2011-12 academic year.
A native of Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, Kim is married to Keith Wenger. The couple resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with their two children, Jakob and Makenna, ages four and two
