Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Roy Pickerill to collect CoSIDA’s 25-Year Award

Roy Pickerill is in his 40th year with Kentucky Wesleyan College and his 24th year as the longest tenured Sports Information Director in KWC history. He is among the organization’s honorees that will be awarded their 25th Year of Service Award at this year’s College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) convention in June.
Pickerill said, "This is quite an overwhelming honor.” He added, “Sports information has been my passion since I was introduced to the profession in 1974. The comradery in this profession is why I love it so much as our colleagues are also our close friends.”
CoSIDA inducted him into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1999. He also has the distinction of being the first and only SID from the state of Kentucky inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Pickerill also received the prestigious Warren Berg Award, presented to a college division member who has made an outstanding contributions to the field of sports information, in 1998.
He worked as a student assistant in the sports information office his senior year and was named the school’s first assistant SID upon graduation.
He held that position for 13 years and then was named sports information director in 1988.
Pickerill was also elected the inaugural President of the newly formed Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) consisting of 281 members in 2006 and served a three-year term.
He was also selected to serve as a College Division representative on the newly formed CoSIDA Management Council for three years.
Pickerill has served as media coordinator for the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship for the past four years and 15 years as the assistant media coordinator.
He also served as Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Information Director for three years from 1980 to 1983.
Served on media coordination staffs at NCAA Final Four, Kentucky Derby, Kentucky State Championships, PGA Championships and Senior PGA Championships.
Pickerill has won 21 national awards for excellence in sports publications, including 11 “Best in the Nation” from CoSIDA.
He has served as a panelist and table topic presenter at several CoSIDA conventions and has worked on several CoSIDA committees, including the Workshop Program committee on which he currently serves.
He will be inducted into the Kentucky Wesleyan College Alumni Hall of Fame in October of 2012. His alma mater accorded him the Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the highest honor for an alumnus, in 1994.
The Kentucky Wesleyan booster club presented him with its “Athletic Excellence Award” in 1996. Several years later, he was named the recipient of the Kentucky Wesleyan College Staff Member of the Year Award, which was bestowed upon him in 2004.
He was selected to Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals in 2006, award is given to recognize successful individuals both nationally and internationally in multiple industries and professions.
The native of Louisville, Ky., graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1975.
