Long-time CoSIDA member Jim McGrath voted into Butler Athletics Hall of Fame

Jim McGrath, Associate Athletic Director for Communications at Butler, has been voted into the school’s athletics hall of fame. The induction ceremony, which includes will be held in September.

McGrath, who received his CoSIDA 25-Year Award in 2006 at the convention in Nashville, was hired as BU’s first SID in the fall of 1981. He came to Butler after working five years at his alma mater, Augustana College, in Rock Island, Ill.

During his 31 years at Butler, he has handled media relations for more than 2,000 Butler athletic events, including 953 men’s basketball games. He has served as host SID for four men’s and one women’s NCAA Final Fours in Indianapolis and for regional rounds of nine additional NCAA Tournaments. He was also Butler’s primary media contact during the school’s 2010 and 2011 Final Four runs. Currently, McGrath serves on the NCAA Final Four Media Coordination staff and on the NCAA Championships Advisory Committee.

McGrath’s career has reached beyond collegiate athletics and into international competition. He was a press officer for the U. S. Olympic Committee at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis and for three national Olympic Festivals, and he’s worked in press operations at amateur national championships in boxing, swimming and track and field.

McGrath and his wife Judy have three sons, two of whom attended Butler. They also have five grandchildren and reside in Indianapolis.
