South Carolina State SID Bill Hamilton among honorees by SC Athletic Hall of Fame


COLUMBIA, SC -- Bill Hamilton, the longtime sports information director at South Carolina State and a 2009 inductee into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame, will be among four honored for their various contributions to sports in the Palmetto State by the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame during its annual banquet and induction ceremony on May 14 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. There will be a press conference at 3 pm, a reception beginning at 5:30 pm with dinner and the ceremony to follow at 6:30 pm.

Hamilton, veteran basketball coach Bobby Cremins, Steve Wilmont of the RBC Heritage Golf Classic and Boyd Management Company of Columbia president Kent Wheat will be honored along with Hall of Fame inductees Bill Wilhelm, June Raines, Hootie Johnson, Duce Staley, Dale Davis, Stephen Davis, Jim Hunter and Evelyn Jordan.

Hamilton, in his 39th year as SC State’s publicist, will receive the Herman Helms Media Excellence Award. The Baltimore, Md., native, who grew up in Chesterfield, SC, is the only full-time sports information director in the university’s history, having begun his career at SC State – his alma mater – in 1973. He has earned numerous professional awards during his career and is enshrined in the SC State, MEAC and CoSIDA halls of fame.

Cremins will be presented the Bobby Richardson Sportsmanship Award, Wilmot the Willie Jeffries Ambassador Award and Wheat the Dom Fusci Leadership in Action Award.
