CoSIDA, NewTek delivers live stream of 2012 Capital One Special Awards Gala from convention site on June 25


CoSIDA presented a live stream of the 2012 Capital One Special Awards Gala on Monday night, June 25 from the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis - site of the 2012 CoSIDA Convention. The Capital One Gala took place at 5:45 p.m. (Central/6:45 p.m. Eastern).

The Capital One Special Awards Gala will be archived on CoSIDA.com in early July.

The Gala, in its third year, is a dinner and induction ceremony open to all CoSIDA Convention attendees where the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Hall of Fame class was enshrined and additional CoSIDA Special Awards presented.

Serving as Capital One Hall of Fame Gala master of ceremonies for the evening was ESPN broadcaster Rece Davis who serves as primary studio host for ESPN and ESPN2’s coverage of college football and college basketball. He was joined onstage by Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Enberg who will present his Dick Enberg Award.

The live stream was presented by NewTek, CoSIDA's Official Continuing Education Video Production Provider and a worldwide leader in portable live production and 3D animation tools. Gala title sponsor is Capital One while the NCAA is a major contributing sponsor.

This year’s 2012 inductees into the Capital One Academic All-America® Hall of Fame, as selected by CoSIDA, included: United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, a basketball co-captain at Harvard University, joins former University of Oklahoma and fellow men’s basketball standout Alvan Adams along with University of Notre Dame women’s basketball star Ruth Riley, University of Southern California swimming great John Naber and Slippery Rock University soccer standout Dr. Todd Olsen. In addition, the Dick Enberg Award will be given to the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno for actions and commitment which have furthered the meaning and reach of the Capital One Academic All-America® Teams Program and student-athletes while promoting the values of education. The CoSIDA Lester Jordan Award (for outstanding contributions to the Capital One Academic All-America® program) was given to CoSIDA treasurer Dave Wohlhueter. Wohlhueter also received the CoSIDA Distinguished Service Award, becoming only the second recipient of this elite honor.

Other CoSIDA Special Awards recipients honored during the Gala were: Lawrence Fan (San Jose State), the Arch Ward Award; Jack Neumann (University of Calgary), the Warren Berg Award winner; and Malcolm Moran, the Jake Wade Award.
