2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Women's Soccer Team

TOWSON, Md. –  Junior forward Eivind Austboe of LIU Post and senior forward Karenee Demery of California State University Stanislaus lead the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Austboe has been chosen as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II men’s soccer while Demery won the award for women’s soccer.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being fin
ancially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 D-II Academic All-America® teams program.

A business management major with a 3.94 G.P.A., Austboe (right) is making his first appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II first team. He has led LIU Post to an 18-1-2 record and to the East Region final in the NCAA Tournament against Southern New Hampshire University. The No. 8 Pioneers won the East Coast Conference championship and defeated Dowling College 6-1 to advance to tournament’s third round.

A native of Stavanger, Norway, Austboe was named the EC
C Offensive Player of the Year after ranking among the Division II leaders in scoring. He has started all 21 matches at forward, leading a Pioneer offense that ranks fourth in Division II in scoring. He has a team-high 24 goals along with 10 assists for 58 points. He ranks third in Division II in goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.

Austboe had a huge comeback season after missing the second half of the 2012 campaign with an injury. After earning ECC Rookie of the Ye
ar and All-ECC second-team honors in 2011, Austboe was named an Honorary All-Conference member in 2012.

Demery
(right), a native of Merced, Calif., is making her second appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II team. The biological science major with a 3.70 G.P.A. was also a first team selection as a junior in 2012.

 Demery guided the No. 5 ranked Warriors to an 18-1-2 record in 2013 and the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship where they suffered an upset loss to California State University San Bernardino. She finished her final season of play with 21 goals, 10 assists, 52 points and six game-winning goals, leading Cal State Stanislaus in all four statistical categories. She ranks No. 4 in the country in points per game (2.48), No. 5 in goals per game (1.0) and No. 24 in assists per game (0.48).

 The forward finished her career atop the Cal State Stanislaus record book with 75 career goals scored, 30 assists and 180 career points. Demery was a three-time California Collegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year and has been named a NSCAA All-American twice in 2011 and 2012.

Capital One Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer Division II Team

Austboe is one of three LIU Post players named to the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team, joined by goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen and defender Eirik Bjoernoe.

Eight members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA II men’s soccer first team have at least a 3.90 G.P.A. The 11 first team honorees have an average G.P.A. of 3.89.

Jorgensen was also a first team performer in 2012. The Copenhagen, Denmark, native is a political science and economics major with a 3.96 G.P.A. He owns an 18-1-2 record with a 0.90 goals-against average and five shutouts. He was recently named to the All-ECC second team after being named the Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 and 2012. He has allowed just 18 goals and has a .824 save percentage.

Bjoernoe has played a major role in Jorgensen’s and LIU Post’s success. The senior from Randalberg, Norway, was named the ECC Defensive Player of the Year while leading the Pioneer back line. He has also contributed on the offensive end while starting all 21 matches. He ranks third on the team in scoring with five goals and nine assists for 19 points. He was named to the All-ECC first team for the third straight year. Bjoernoe is a journalism major with a 3.78 G.P.A.

Jorgensen is one of three players who were also named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team. Garrett Seitz of Regis University and Gannon University’s Robbie Bennett were accorded third team honors a year ago.

Seitz is a defender from Broomfield, Colo. The senior is a biology and biomedical sciences major with a 3.93 G.P.A. He has helped the Rangers to a 13-3-1 record, and like LIU Post, a berth in the NCAA Round of 16. Seitz was recently named the recipient of the 2013 Summit Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating in the finals sites for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s championships. He has anchored the back line for Regis, playing in 61 games with 46 starts. This year he has played in all 17 games with 16 starts, helping the defense record three shutouts while allowing 28 goals. He was recently named to the All-RMAC third team.

Bennett is a junior forward from Pinetown, South Africa. A sport psychology major with a 3.94 G.P.A., he was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference first team for the third straight year. He led the Golden Knights in goals (14), points (30) and game-winning goals (3). He leads the PSAC in goals and sits second in goals per match. Bennett ranks tenth all-time at Gannon in career goals (36) and 12th in career points (85). He was recognized as the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2011, and was named to the NSCAA All-America third team as a sophomore.

Ilija Ilic of Young Harris College completes the trio of forwards on the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team. A junior from Belgrade, Serbia, he led the Mountain Lions to a 16-2-0 finish. Young Harris is in its provisional year as an NCAA Division II member and is not eligible for the NCAA playoffs; however, the Mountain Lions are ranked third in the latest NSCAA Division II national rankings. Ilic is a business and public policy major with a 3.81 G.P.A. He was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, and leads the conference in goals with 19. He added six assists for a conference-leading 44 points. In addition, Ilic received the PBC Elite 15 Award, which honors the student-athletes competing in the championship event with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Seniors Philip Cutler of Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Limestone College’s Mark Mitchell join Bjoernoe as defenders on the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team.

Cutler has a double major in management and MIS major with a minor in entrepreneurship, maintaining a 3.90 G.P.A. A native of Shipley, England, he started all 19 matches, leading the Falcons to a 15-4-0 record. They would reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Cutler was named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Falcons post eight shutouts and limit opponents to 14 goals. He scored a pair of goals.

Mitchell hails from Glasglow, Scotland, and is a business administration and economics major with a 3.94 G.P.A. He was another player to lead his squad to the NCAA Tournament, as Limestone reached the second round before falling to Carson-Newman University. That wrapped up a 15-4-0 season for the Saints. Mitchell played in all 19 matches and was credited with one assist. The Saints gave up just 20 goals while recording seven shutouts.

The three midfielders on the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team are Andisheh Bagheri of the University of California, San Diego, Harding University’s Jacob Stevens, and Quincy (Ill.) University’s Ethan Venvertich.

Bagheri is a graduate student from Davis, Calif. A Biology major with a 3.57 G.P.A., he has helped UC San Diego move into the third round of the NCAA Tournament following a win on penalty kicks over California State University Chico. The Tritons have a 14-3-4 record. Bagheri has started 19 of 20 matches and ranks as the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points. That included six game-winning goals. He was a first team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection after earning second team honors in 2012.

Stevens is a mechanical engineering major and has the highest G.P.A. on the Capital One Academic All-America® team at 4.00. The junior from Arlington, Texas, recently earned honorable mention All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors. He started all 16 matches, finishing tied for third on the team in scoring with four goals and an assist.

Venvertloh is also a junior and has a 3.98 G.P.A. as a finance major. A native of Quincy, Ill., he led the Hawks to a 15-5-0 record, finishing as the second-leading scorer. He started all 20 matches, totaling ten goals and six assists for 26 points. He led the team with four game-winning goals. He was a main part of an offense that led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals scored (49). He was named to the All-GLVC third team.


Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Division II Team

The 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II women’s soccer first team has three repeat award honorees. Joining Demery as previous selection to the team are Andye Dawson, a senior from Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Julia Hansson, a senior from the University of Bridgeport. Dawson was a third team selection in 2012 and Hansson was named to the second team last year.

Along with Demery, senior Jaclyn Mastroianni of No. 8 Quincy and sophomore Jacoby Ziegler of Cedarville University were first team forward selections. Hansson, a senior goalkeeper, was joined in the backfield by fellow first team defender selections Sam Burneo of Colorado Mesa University, Lauren Impey of No. 12 Slippery Rock University, Loren LeForce of Rogers State University and Katie Oliveri of Kutztown University.

Rounding out this year’s first team selections in the midfield were Sydney Bond of No. 4 College of Saint Rose, Dawson and Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Paige Kramer, the only junior on the first team.

Four members of the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II first and second teams boast of a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The 11-member first team has an average G.P.A of 3.86.

A health sciences major with a 3.88 G.P.A., Hansson finished her final season at Bridgeport with a 0.61 goals-against average, 56 saves and 10 shutouts. She allowed only 12 goals all season and helped the Purple Knights to an 18-3 record and the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. The Tocksfors, Sweden, native was an All-ECC first team selection and finished the year ranked No. 21 in the country in goals-against average.

Burneo was a RMAC third team honoree, her fourth career All-RMAC all-conference selection. The senior kinesiology major with a 3.92 G.P.A. started all 18 games for Colorado Mesa in 2013 and helped the Mavericks post five shutouts during the her final season. The Las Vegas, Nev., native finished the year with two goals, one assist and five points and was named the RMAC Academic Player of the Year.

Impey has helped guide No. 12 Slippery Rock to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the third consecutive season and recently netted the first goal in the team’s second round victory over No. 24 Shippensburg University. The adapted physical activity major with a 3.89 G.P.A. has guided The Rock’s defense that has allowed 11 goals in 19 games this season and individually has two goals, five assists and nine points to her tally in 2013. The 2013 PSAC Defensive Player of the Year hails from Northampton, England.

LeForce is one of two players selected to the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II women’s soccer first team with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The Rogers State accounting major played in all 17 games for the Hillcats in 2013 and recorded one shot as the squad’s top defender. The native of Coweta, Okla., is the president of the Rogers State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Rounding out this year’s first team defenders is Oliveri, a secondary education major with a 3.96 G.P.A. The Mifflinburg, Pa., native helped Kutztown to its first-ever NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship first round victory, before the Golden Bears fell in the second round to No. 6 California (Pa.) University. Oliveri started all 20 games of her senior season, adding an assist, and helped the Golden Bears hold opponents to a 0.99 goals-against average.

Bond is No. 4 Saint Rose’s offensive standout and has guided the Golden Knights to the program’s ninth NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Round of 16 appearance. The senior criminal justice major with a 3.52 G.P.A., from Deer Park, N.Y., leads Saint Rose with 12 goals, six assists, 30 points and four game winning goals. She is a two-time All-American and has appeared in nearly 100 matches during her four-year career with the Golden Knights. She earned her third consecutive Northeast-10 all-conference honor this year.

Dawson, a senior chemistry major with a 3.95 G.P.A., helped Armstrong post an 11-4-3 record in her senior season. She started 13 games and ranked third on the squad with 15 shots on goal. She finished her final season with the Pirates with one goal, one assist and three points. The Senoia, Ga., native earned All-Peach Belt honors twice in her career as a sophomore and junior and was a NSCAA All-Southeast Region honoree in 2011.

Kramer
finished her junior year at Kentucky Wesleyan as the Panthers’ team leader with 25 points and 11 assists, while sharing team-high goal scoring honors with two others players (7). She was named to the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference first team and she ranks No. 6 in the country in total assists and No. 8 in assists per game (0.58). A three-time Academic All-GMAC honoree, the Owensboro, Ky., native is Kentucky Wesleyan’s all-time career leader as a junior with 21 career assists. She joined Rogers State’s LeForce as the only 4.00 first team Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II selections this year.

The 2013 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, Mastroianni helped No. 8 Quincy to the program’s first-ever undefeated regular season and has the No. 2 seed Hawks in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship regional finals. The senior psychology major with a 3.81 G.P.A. leads her team with 10 goals, 12 assists, 32 points, 56 shots and four game-winning goals. The native of St. Louis, Mo., ranks No. 13 in the country in assists per game (0.55) and No. 5 in total assists. She was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week on Sept. 24.

Ziegler, the final member of the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II first team, helped Cedarville post a program-record 15 victories in 2013. She scored twice in the Yellow Jacket’s NCCAA Midwest Regional semifinal victory over Oakland City University and finished the year with 20 goals, 10 assists, 50 points, and four game-winning goals. She ranks No. 3 in the country in goals, No. 7 in goals per game (0.909) and No. 8 in points per game (2.27). A nursing major with a 3.84 G.P.A. from Wellington, Ohio, Ziegler was named the GMAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career this season.
