NCAA Media Coordination and Statistics Newsletter - August edition

NCAA Media Coordination and Statistics Newsletter - August edition

Note from the NCAA Media Coordination & Statistics Staff:
This newsletter is put together by the NCAA national office media coordination and statistics staff specifically for SIDs. This will continue to come out the first week of each month. If you have any comments or anything you would like to see in the future, please contact Mark Bedics (
mbedics@ncaa.org). This is being sent to every email address that we have on file through the statistics sport databases. If there is anyone else that needs to be added that did not receive it, please let us know. Thank you.

I have a great story for the NCAA website. Where do I send it?

Stories and ideas for www.NCAA.com can be sent to ncaa-content@turner.com.

Transactions, noteworthy happenings and NCAA news items are welcome for submission on www.NCAA.org. See below for specific divisional contacts.

Fall sports schedule and roster input request

Fall XML reporting instructions

Specific reporting memos will be sent to the sports information directors of each division by mid-August.  These newsletters will include the weekly deadlines and specific contact for each sport. Note that reporting links should become active on the first day of allowable competition in each sport.

Records books & stats manuals

Stay tuned for updated records books and stats manuals. These will be posted online as they become available. Choose a sport from the top chart at this link to get started:

How do I get my hands on previous years’ RPIs?

Access: http://rpiarchive.ncaa.org.  Select the RPI data that you’re looking for – sport, nitty gritty or team sheets, etc., and you’ll have access to pdfs of these reports. They’re in chronological order for the year selected, so you might have to advance to the next page to get the specific report you’re looking for.

We’ve had a lot of turnover in our sports information office…and I can’t find our final statistics/results for several years for one of our programs.  Can I get those from the NCAA?

Access: http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/careersearch and on the right-hand side, choose your school, year, and sport. The final statistics and results that were submitted to the NCAA Statistics Department are available to you. All final stats/results prior to online submissions are in pdf format. You can also use this same link to search career stats and coaching records.

Where can I find NCAA logos?

Logos can be downloaded at https://sportgraphics.widencollective.com/login. You must first create an account to access the site.

Stats Policies
Are you wondering who should report XML files for each contest?  How do you determine if a game should be listed as a neutral site contest?  When did the NCAA begin tracking stats for each sport? What is a “no contest”? Find these answers and much more information by reviewing the NCAA statistics policies at this PDF: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/ForSIDs/Policies.pdf

NCAA.com/media

Did you know that the latest NCAA championship media coordination and statistics staff contact information, media policies, broadcast information and championship credential applications are all available at http://www.ncaa.com/media?  Note that the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff is in the process of building a convenient landing page that will be housed at NCAA.com/media that will provide you with a majority of the links needed as an SID related to NCAA championships on one page.  This page will be rolled out in August with further details provided in the September newsletter.
