Senior Wanessa Siqueira of Park University headlines the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® volleyball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
Siqueira was selected as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the volleyball team.
A senior business administration/marketing major from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Siqueira is currently registering a 3.92 grade point average (G.P.A). She helped the Pirates to a 40-0 overall record as Park claimed its first-ever NAIA Volleyball National Championship in its program history. The Pirates defeated defending champion University of Texas at Brownsville 3-0 in the title match. Park also won both the American Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament championships, going 12-0 in league play and 3-0 in the tournament. In fact, Park has only dropped three sets all season, going 120-6 in its 40 matches.
Siqueira was recently named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region Team and earned All-AMC first team honors for the third year in a row. In 2013, she was named the AMC Player of the Year. On the year, Siqueira ranks 17th in the NAIA in hitting percentage (0.331) and 33rd in kills per set (3.530) and in total kills (439). Overall, she has 246 digs, 36 service aces and 76 total blocks to her credit this season.
Joining Siqueira on the first team are two repeat members of the 2013 squad –
Aubrey Husak of Bethel (Ind.) College and
Amy Weststeyn of Biola University.
Husak, a senior cell and molecular biology major from Mount Vernon, Iowa, sports a 3.94 G.P.A and was a member of the first team in 2013. The senior helped the Pilots to a 19-17 overall record and led the team in kills per set (3.02). Husak earned an All-Crossroads League first team selection for the third year in a row after posting 405 kills, a .266 hitting percentage and 116 total blocks.
A member of the second team in 2013,
Weststeyn is a journalism and integrated media major from Visalia, California. Owner of a 3.95 G.P.A., Weststeyn helped the Eagles to a 32-5 overall mark and to the NAIA Nation Tournament where they were eliminated in a five-set semifinal match to Park. The Eagles also claimed the Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The GSAC Player of the Year and 2014 NAIA Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team performer leads the NAIA in hitting percentage (0.433), third in total blocks (174), seventh in blocks per set (1.270), 15th in total kills (490), and 28
th in kills per set (3.580).
The rest of the first team include
Brooke Fessler of Northwestern (Iowa) College, Hannah Stone of Davenport University, and
Kayla Vogel of Madonna University.
Making up the second team are
Kesley Arvin of Taylor University, Hope Harsh of Peru State College, Chelsi Hummert of Lindenwood University-Belleville, Carrie Lierz of Peru State, Alyssa Mason of Biola, and
Annelise Rohrer of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
There are a total of four student-athletes with a G.P.A. of 4.0. The first team boast a combined G.P.A. of 3.92, while the second team has a combined G.P.A. of 3.98. The overall G.P.A. for this year’s team is 3.95. Biola and Peru State led all institutions with two honorees on one of the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball teams.
