Junior outside hitter Maggie Kamp of Calvin College headlines the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Kamp, who maintains a 3.91 G.P.A. with a business marketing major with a studio design minor, was selected as the winner of the Capital One Division III Academic All-America® of the Year award for volleyball. Maggie joins her sisters, Rebecca and Lizzie Kamp, who also earned Cap­ital One Division III Academic All-America® of the Year awards during their respective playing careers at Calvin. Rebecca Kamp won the award in 2011 and Lizzie Kamp received the honor 2012. The Kamps become the first sister trio to win the award.
 
The Capital One Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
 
A junior from Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp was recently named the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Year and picked up her second AVCA Division III All-American honor. The AVCA Player of the Year award was also hardware that her sisters, Rebecca (2011) and Lizzie (2012), earned during their careers at Calvin -- another first accomplished by the sisters.
 
Kamp led the Knights with an average of 4.42 kills per set this season, ranking 13th in Division III in the category. She posted an attack percentage of .289 in the campaign and contributed 2.69 digs per set. Kamp finished her junior campaign ranked 17th in Division III with 4.87 points per set. She led the Knights to a 31-4 record as Calvin advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament.
 
Kamp was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 NCAA Division III Regional in Kenosha, Wis., as she led the Knights to the national quarterfinals. In a four-set victory versus Carthage in the regional final, she tallied 14 kills, 19 digs, three service aces and three block assists.
 
A three-year starter at outside hitter for Calvin, she helped lead the Knights to the 2013 NCAA Division III Volleyball National Championship. She collected a career-high 27 kills in the national championship match and was recognized as the 2013 tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
 
Kamp, a second team honoree in 2013, is one of five individuals to earn a repeat selection as a Capital One Academic All-America® Division III volleyball team.
 
First team selection Jenny Astrachan of Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a repeat honoree this year after earning second-team recognition in 2013. The senior from Austin, Texas, is a computer science major with a 4.0 G.P.A. An AVCA honorable mention All-American in 2014, Astrachan was second among the Engineers with an average 3.35 kills per set. She ranked second in the NEWMAC in kills (389) and fourth in kills per set. She helped lead MIT to the second round of the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament and a 28-6 record in 2014.
 
Senior Kaitlin Norman of Piedmont College moved up to the first team this year following a second-team selection in 2013. Norman is a biology major from Good Hope, Georgia, with a 4.0 G.P.A. Norman is a three-time USA South all-conference honoree. She led the Lady Lions with a team-high 2.39 kills per set this season and added 2.29 digs per set in leading the team to a 20-13 record and the USA South Conference championship tournament.
 
Wittenberg University senior Kara Seidenstricker is a repeat selection. She is a first team honoree this year, following a second team selection in 2013. Seidenstricker is an education major at Wittenberg with 3.99 G.P.A. The London, Ohio, native is a 2014 AVCA Division III first team All-American in helping lead the Tigers to the NCAA Division III tournament round of 16. The rightside hitter led Wittenberg with a team-high 3.39 kills per set and a .309 attack percentage, while also contributing 3.38 digs per set.
 
Second team honoree Kelly Foley from University of St. Thomas (Minn.) is a repeat selection following first team recognition in 2013. The native of St. Paul, Minnesota, is a psychology major at St. Thomas with a 3.78 G.P.A. Foley is a three-time AVCA All-American, earning first team honors in 2014. She is one of only two players in St. Thomas history to earn three All-American selections. A middle blocker for the Tommies, Foley averaged 3.03 kills per set this season with a .326 attack percentage and 0.73 blocks per set.
 
Ten of the 18 members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams have a 3.90 G.P.A or better, with six achieving a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. The 18 members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III volleyball first team maintain an average G.P.A of 3.905.
