Berkley Whaley leads the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II volleyball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An advertising and public relations major with a 3.82 G.P.A., Whaley is the winner of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II volleyball.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The reigning AVCA national Player of the Year, Whaley is a two-time first team Academic All-America® selection. The D2CCA South Region Player of the Year led the Spartans in kills (473) and points (512.5). Whaley compiled a .305 hitting percentage with 14 service aces, 41 total blocks and 359 digs. She is a three-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year who has amassed 1,350 kills and 935 digs in her UT career.
Whaley earned Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a pair of victories to close out the regular season. She hit .461 on the week, committing only two attack errors in 76 swings while averaging 5.29 kills per set. Tampa defeated SSC foes Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University during Whaley’s award-winning week.
Ferris State senior libero
Danielle Dowd makes the third team after receiving second team laurels in 2014. Both Dowd and Whaley helped their respective teams make the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. The Manhattan, Illinois, native helped the Bulldogs advance to the Midwest Regional championship match before falling to Rockhurst University. Ferris State completed the 2015 campaign 33-3 overall.
Dowd saw action in 36 of 36 Ferris State matches with 125 sets played. She posted 577 digs and 64 service aces. Dowd recorded a season-high 35 digs in a huge Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road victory at Grand Valley State University Nov. 3. She had 25 digs against Missouri Western State University Sept. 4. Dowd was named to the Ferris State Volleyball Invitational all-tournament team on Sept. 5.
