AUSTIN, TEXAS – Senior guard Matt Schauss of Bethel (Ind.) College and senior forward Morgan Stuut of Saint Xavier University highlight the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams as released by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® basketball teams include student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
 
Schauss and Stuut have been chosen as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year honorees for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, respectively.
 
A senior studying exercise science from Greens Fork, Indiana, Schauss has compiled a 3.75 G.P.A (grade point average). In his Bethel career, Schauss has accumulated 1,925 points, 764 rebounds, 546 assists and 510 free throws entering his team’s final regular-season game. Schauss became the first in program history to record 1,800 points, 700 rebounds and 500 assists. His assists rank ninth in Bethel history.
                                            
On Dec. 13, 2014, Schauss notched the fourth triple-double in school history with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) College. He ranks second in the Crossroads League in scoring (20.4 points per game), tops in rebounding (9.1) and third in assists (4.8). He has been four-time Crossroads League Player of the Week, NAIA Division II Player of the Week and NCCAA Player of the Week.
 
Schauss became a preseason first-team All-Crossroads League pick after making third-team all-conference as a junior. He is two-time all-conference as well as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Crossroads League choice.
 
A senior nursing major from Marcellus, Michigan, Stuut boasts a 3.86 G.P.A. Stuut entered elite company as a three-time Academic All-America® by making the first team for the second consecutive year and the third team as a sophomore.

In her career, Stuut has been three-time NAIA All-American, two-time finalist for the WBCA NAIA Player of the Year, twice been conference player of the year, three-time first-team All-CCAC, three-time national player of the week and CCAC Player of the Week 14 times. Stuut has been recognized for her academic achievements as a three-time Academic All-District choice, CCAC All-Academic and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Stuut became the first Saint Xavier women’s player to surpass 2,000 career points. She has posted a program-record 2,235 career points entering the Cougar’s final regular-season game. As a senior, Stuut tops Saint Xavier with 17.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.71 steals per game. Stuut leads the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in rebounding and stands tied for the NAIA Division II lead in double-doubles with 19. Her 27 rebounds against Roosevelt University on Dec. 3 established a new single-game program record and is tied for the best rebounding effort in NAIA Division II this season.
 
With Stuut’s leadership, Saint Xavier has captured its 11th conference regular-season championship. Stuut has garnered CCAC Player of the Week three times and been named to two all-tournament teams this season.
 
Capital One Academic All-America® Men’s Basketball College Division Team
 
Schauss’ Bethel teammate Zach Miller became the only member of the 2014-15 Capital One College Division Academic All-America® Men’s Basketball Team to earn multiple All-American nods. Miller is a three-time honoree who became a first-team selection this season after twice being named second team.
 
The men’s first team is comprised of Miller, Schauss, Trae Bergh from Dakota Wesleyan University, Bryan Redic of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Tony Smit of Cardinal Stritch University. The second team has Chandler Folkerts of Concordia (Neb.) University, Columbia (Mo.) College teammates Zach Rockers and Tanner Sutton and Eric Thompson and Tim Weber, both of Southern Oregon University.
 
The average G.P.A. of the men’s first team is 3.92.
 
Miller, a senior guard from Connersville, Ind., has put together a 3.95 G.P.A. while double-majoring in accounting and economics and finance. Miller has scored 1,941 points and owns the Bethel career record with 411 3-pointers as well as a program-best consecutive free-throw hitting streak with 43.
 
As a Pilot, Miller took preseason All-Crossroads League first team this season after making the all-conference second team last year and third team the year before. He has been an honorable-mention NAIA All-American, two-time NCCAA All-American, three-time all-conference, NAIA Scholar-Athlete, NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and academic all-conference.

Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Basketball College Division Team

The Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Women's Basketball Team includes four repeat honorees, including three three-time Academic All-America honorees – Stuut, Stuut’s Saint Xavier teammate Suzie Broski and Katie Gonnering of the University of St. Francis (Ill.). Rachel Melcher of Madonna University made the team for the second year in a row.
 
The first team included Columbia’s Ashley Fisher, Allison Kauffman of Grace College and Katie Jenson of St. Ambrose University. Karen Ettleman of Northwestern (Iowa) College, Lydia Nash of Union (Ky.) College and Jamie Van Kirk of Hastings College landed on the second team.
 
The average G.P.A. of the women’s first team is 3.95.
 
Columbia (Mo.) College was the only institution with both men’s and women’s Capital One Academic All-American® College Division recipients this year.
 
Broski, a senior guard from Rockford, Illinois, has compiled a 4.00 G.P.A. while pursuing a biology degree. Broski leads Saint Xavier in field-goal percentage (53.6) and 3-point shooting percentage (48.3). Her 1,734 points rank fourth all-time among the Cougars. Broski has been a two-time first-team Academic All-American, second-team Academic All-American as a sophomore, CCAC All-Academic and NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
 
A senior forward from Seymour, Wisconsin, Gonnering owns a 3.77 G.P.A. studying nursing. Gonnering has been on the Capital One Academic All-America® second team twice after making the first team in 2013. She has been three-time NAIA All-American, three-time first-team All-CCAC, two-time conference all-academic and an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Melcher, a senior guard from Sterling Heights, Michigan, has posted a 3.95 G.P.A. working towards a biology degree. A second-team honoree as a senior, she became the first Madonna student-athlete to garner Capital One Academic All-America® accolades when she took first-team honors as a junior. She is a 2014 All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference first-team selection as well as Academic All-WHAC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
