Six members of the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Basketball Team as selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) will be competing in this year’s NCAA tournament.
 
Tyler Harvey of Eastern Washington University, who was named to the first team, headlines the six players. Harvey is joined in the postseason by second team members Alex Barlow (Butler University), Wayne Blackshear (University of Louisville) and Marcus Paige (University of North Carolina); and third team members Craig Bradshaw (Belmont University) and Mike Gesell (University of Iowa).
 
Harvey, a junior guard from Torrance, California, leads NCAA Division I in scoring (22.9 ppg) and three-point field goals per game (3.94) and is ranked 18th in three-point field goal percentage (.428). Harvey, who has a 3.60 G.P.A. as a communication studies major, is a finalist for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year and is on the watch list for the Lou Henson Award given to the nation’s top mid-major player. The MVP of the Big Sky Conference Tournament and a unanimous first team All-Big Sky Selection this season has led EWU to a 26-8 record. Eastern Washington, the No. 13 seed in the South Region will face Georgetown University Thursday.
 
Paige, a junior guard from Marion, Iowa, is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America® second team selection. Paige, who has a 3.39 G.P.A. as a journalism and history major, is currently averaging 13.9 points, 4.6 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals for the 24-11 Tar Heels. Paige is a two-time All-ACC choice and was awarded the ACC’s Skip Prosser Award which is given to the conference’s top scholar-athlete for men’s basketball. North Carolina, the No. 4 seed in the West Region, will face Harvard University Thursday.
 
Barlow, a senior guard from Springboro, Ohio, is ranked 11th in the latest NCAA Division I statistics in assist turnover ratio (3.06), 14th in steals per game (2.19) and 16th in total steals (70). Barlow, who has a 3.75 G.P.A. as a finance major, averages 9.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the 22-10 Bulldogs. Barlow is the two-time BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete and received the league’s Sportsmanship Award this year. Barlow is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Butler, the No. 6 seed from the Midwest Region will face the University of Texas Thursday.
 
Blackshear, a senior forward from Chicago, Illinois, has averaged 10.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals this season for the Cardinals, who enter the tournament at 24-8. Blackshear, who has a 3.40 G.P.A. as a communication major, was named to the All-ACC Academic team this season and earned the NCAA Elite 89 Award as the Cardinals captured the 2013 tournament. Louisville is the No. 4 seed in the East Region and they will take on UC Irvine Friday.
 
Bradshaw, a junior guard from Ridgetop, Tennessee, is averaging 18.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals for the 22-10 Bruins. Bradshaw, who has a 3.51 G.P.A. as a public relations major, is currently ranked 26th in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.416). The two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection is also on the watch list for the Lou Henson Award. Belmont is the No. 15 seed in the East Region and will face the University of Virginia Friday.
 
Gesell, a junior guard from South Sioux City, Nebraska, has averaged 7.1 points, 3.9 assists and 2.0 rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who enter the tournament at 21-11. Gesell, who has a 3.93 G.P.A. as a finance major, was the 2015 Big Team Sportsmanship Award honoree. Iowa is the South Region’s No. 7 seed and they will play Davidson College Friday.
