Submit Photos for "A Day in the Life of CoSIDA Members" Photo Gallery
CoSIDA Members,
Do you have a photo from a March conference or national championship of CoSIDA members at work that you'd like to share with us? Or, have a photo from a spring sports event or student-athlete presentation or interview setting involving CoSIDA members? We'd love to see them and display them in a "CoSIDA at Work" photo gallery. Some of the photos from "March madness" are displayed below.
Please send your photos via email to Barb Kowal, CoSIDA Director of External Affairs (
barbkowal@cosida.com) and include a photo caption/ID as well. Thank you!
CoSIDA President Eric McDowell (Union N.Y.) wrote the following to share with the membership about the hectic month of March in our profession.
Phew…March is over, and here comes April. March is one of the most exciting…emotional…scary…hilarious… memorable…crunch-time…magnificent…thrilling…gut wrenching…and demanding months of the year for the sports communications professional.
Yet, now that “The Madness” is over, remember what you accomplished, and the impact that you made on your colleagues, your media and your student-athletes.
Take a moment and reflect. For me, March provided opportunities to serve, to assist, to enjoy and, to win. After all, we all win in this profession.
• Hearing from nearly a dozen students from Slippery Rock University’s Sport Management program, expressing interest in a future in collegiate sports communications, after they witnessed a “CoSIDA U” presentation.
• Snow on the field, after all, most spring sports start this month.
• Congratulating a board member after he cut down the nets and enjoyed a national championship.
• Watching tears flow from a senior who just completed his career on the ice, and the affection and appreciation shown by his coach on the post-game dais.
• Offering an ear and support and guidance to a colleague after a mistake in judgement from a tweet. Please, “take a full time out” next time beforehand.
• Snow attempting to melt on the field.
• A student coming up after a presentation at the University of Cincinnati, stating “I was not sure what I wanted to do, but now I think I’m sure. How do I get to do what you do?” Jump aboard!
• Seeing a smile from a Past President as he cuts down the nets as well. A smile that spreads from Superior all the way to Kenosha.
• Assisting a television reporter as she interviews a student-athlete who later becomes possibly the best basketball player (female or male) whom I have ever seen in person. And a wonderful interview, too!
• Seeing a senior leave the court to hugs to everyone, and later to the SID, as her career tearfully ends.
• Having a call with a wonderful, dedicated group of professionals serving their profession.
• Wishing luck to colleagues hosting a regional championship round, knowing they don’t need it, because they are the best at hosting these incredible events.
• Watching your student-athletes return from break, ready to play up North, with a tanned face and an excitement that league play is right around the corner. And, thanks for bringing back some of that sun!
• Seeing an intern bask in the glow of coming up with tremendous post game notes.
• Wet snow still coming from above, fortunately not sticking to the snow already attempting to melt on the field.
• Away from the court, away from the field, away from the ice, away from the office (but later updating “away” games at home), making time for a little girl to see an Easter Bunny and produce a beaming grin that melts away a cold, bitter winter.
Now really….how many people can do this for a living? Remember how much you love what you do, and the memories that months like March can create for you!
Best of luck for the rest of your spring and I look forward to seeing you in Orlando in June for our
2015 Convention!
