CoSIDA Partners with Samaritan’s Feet for Community Service Project at Coalition for the Homeless in Orlando

This year’s CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee Community Service Project will partner with Samaritan’s Feet for a new shoe distribution at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida on Tuesday, June 16, from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

This is the third consecutive year the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee has worked with the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida for the annual community service project. This is the sixth community service project organized and coordinated by the Goodwill and Wellness Committee in the past seven years (San Antonio ’09, San Francisco ’10, St. Louis ’12, Orlando, ’13, ’14, ’15).

Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme, inspiring speaker and storyteller and the founder of Samaritan’s Feet International, will deliver the keynote kickoff presentation at the 2015 CoSIDA Convention on Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m.

CoSIDA volunteers will travel to downtown Orlando on Tuesday morning to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida’s Women’s Residential and Counseling Center to participate in the Shoes of Hope Distribution. CoSIDA volunteers will wash the feet of the women and children that reside there and provide them with a new pair of socks and shoes. Plus, the CoSIDA contingent along with Samaritan’s Feet staffers will share Samaritan’s Feet story of hope.

If you are interested in signing up for this impactful community service project please sign-up online here – http://vols.pt/fhvWLP - and complete the VolunteerSpot form. This community service project is limited to 50 participants.

“We are thrilled to be returning for a third year to volunteer at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida,” said Sam Atkinson, chair of the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee, and Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Gallaudet University. “Our volunteers are in for a moving and emotional experience, thanks to our partnership with Samaritan’s Feet, as we have the opportunity to help give hope and love to these residents that need our help.”

Last year, a record 42 volunteers traveled to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida for a “Water Day Fun Day” where volunteers operated a water slide, played games, cleaned up the area and passed out pizza, drinks and ice cream.

The Goodwill and Wellness Committee will also be collecting donations for the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida as they ask for toiletries, clothing and shoes to be donated. You can sign-up for the community service project or the 5K Fun Run/Walk in-person and drop-off donations on Sunday, June 14, from Noon-4:30 p.m. by the CoSIDA Registration area. It’s encouraged to sign-up for the community service project and 5K in advance as spots are limited.
