Proposed CoSIDA Constitutional Amendments

Proposed CoSIDA Constitutional Amendments

Below are the CoSIDA Constitutional amendments being proposed. They are published below, per CoSIDA constitution bylaws, and will be voted upon at the 2015  CoSIDA Convention at the Marriott World Center in Orlando during the annual business meeting. That business meeting - open to all convention attendees - takes place on Tuesday, June 16 from 12:30-1 pm in Sabel (exhibitor room) in the Product Theater area.

Amendments to the CoSIDA Constitution
Proposed by Shelly Poe, Auburn University

I propose changes in wording for housekeeping purposes to the following articles. I request that they be voted on as one group (10 items total), unless a request is made otherwise from the floor to separate one or more items.

*Article 4 (Officers), Section 4:
Now reads: The Secretary of the Association shall each be paid an annual stipend as determined by the Board of Directors.
Proposed: The Secretary of the Association shall be paid an annual stipend as determined by the Board of Directors. (removing the word “each”)
Rationale: was not corrected after the Treasurer position was absorbed by the creation of the Director of deleted

*Change the word “workshop” to “convention” in Article 4, Section 2; Article 8, Section 1; Article 9, Section 2

*Article 8 (Committees), Section 1:
Now reads: The Nominating Committee shall be chaired by the third past-president.
Proposed: The Nominating Committee shall be chaired by the past-president. (removing the word “third”)
Rationale: CoSIDA no longer has a third past-president on its Board of Directors

*Article 8 (Committees), Section 1: deleting the mentions of the Workshop Social committees
Rationale: This committee does not currently exist; any new committees will have their roles and responsibilities outlined in the policy manual

*Article 8 (Committees), Section 2:
Now reads: Any member of CoSIDA may hold committee membership.
Proposed: Any current dues-paying or lifetime member of CoSIDA may hold committee membership
Rationale: better clarifies requirements for committee membership

*Article 13 (Awards), Section 6 (Dick Enberg Award):
Now reads: The award winner will be selected by a special committee appointed and chaired by the Chairman of the Special Awards Committee with representation to include the CoSIDA Board, the Academic All-America Committee and Academic Alll-America Hall of Fame Members.
Proposed: The award winner will be selected by the Academic All-America Committee.
Rationale: This is how this award is currently selected

*Article 13 (Awards), Section 7 (Bud Nangle Award):
Now reads: The award winner will be selected by the Ethics Committee, with approval of the Special Awards Committee and the Board of Directors.
Proposed: The award winner will be selected by the Special Awards Committee.
Rationale: The Ethics Committee no longer exists under that name; the Special Awards Committee currently considers candidates for this award

*Article 13 (Awards), Section 2 (Hall of Fame):
Now reads: The Association may, at its annual meeting, present up to five members with the Hall of Fame Award.
Proposed: The Association may select up to five members annually for the Hall of Fame Award.
Rationale: In some years, such as this one, we may present more than five awards, because of family and/or work situations prohibited a selected recipient from attending an earlier convention

*Article 13 (Awards), Section 3 (25-Year Award):
Now reads: Given to active members who have served 25 years as a full-time employee in the profession
Proposed: Given to active members who have served 25 years as a full-time employee in the profession in collegiate athletics (adding the words “in collegiate athletics”)
Rationale: better clarify those eligible for this award

*Article 13 (Awards), Section 1 (Trailblazer Award): Need to add the name of Mary Jo Haverbeck to that award description as voted upon by the Special Awards Committee and Board of Directors in 2014

Article 3 (Membership), Section 2:
Now reads: Associate, student and honorary members of CoSIDA shall enjoy the same rights and privileges as active members, except that they may not hold office or serve on the Board of Directors.
Proposed: Associate, retired, student and honorary members of CoSIDA shall enjoy the same rights and privileges as active members, except that they may not hold office or serve on the Board of Directors. (adding the word “retired”)
Rationale: Better clarify the rights of retired members to vote and hold committee membership

Article 13 (Awards), Section 2 (Hall of Fame Veterans Committee):
Now reads: The Special Awards Committee will also create a subcommittee that will address vintage members of the profession and develop a structure to submit such members for consideration for the Hall of Fame as they are deemed worthy. This will be an additional member above the five and will not have to be done on an annual basis.
Proposed: A subcommittee of the Special Awards Committee (Veterans Committee) will consider the credentials of nominees who are no longer active in the profession and may select an additional Hall of Fame member from that group annually.
Rationale: To reflect the evolved mission of the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee now that it has been active for seven years
